Forget the extended maintenance plan quote you got. You can get it for $100 above dealer cost from Macon BMW, which for you is $1,795 + $100 = $1,895 just by telling them you are an Xoutpost member. Banking the money on repairs is fine, but maintenance isn't really repairs, strictly speaking.
In regard to the warranty pricing, I have no idea. You'll have to shop around for the best plan/price. What company's plan are they selling by the way? Quote:

I posted this in the X3 forum but I figure it will get more exposure here. I am debating if I should buy the extended maintenance package. I need to decide this next week as I am about to hit 50K. I have the CPO warranty till 4/12. I had them check my brakes and the fronts have 3/4 left (original brakes) and the rears are like new (replaced about 8k ago). I just had my engine belt replaced and my front wipers. I am planning on putting on 10-15k per year in miles. I am thinking it is not worth it but it is $1395 to not worry. Does it seem like it is worthwhile in this case or just pass to pay as I go?

Look at everything that is included and consider how much of it you'll be getting done during that time frame. Call up the dealer and ask how much each individual service costs. Then ask yourself if it's a car you'll keep and want to maintain, or one that you plan on getting rid of in the next couple years and don't want to spend any money on maintenance. Then do that math and you'll have your answer.

have the same car as you bullsbmw im currently shopping around but some of the companies out there wont even allow you to go to a bmw dealership for service and repairs! smh

BMW updated the Extended Maintenance Program information effective 3/2010 (from June 2009). The reason for this is to update the eligible models and pricing to include Model Year 2011 cars (now covering vehicles between 2004 and 2011). Note that the pricing has not increased from the July 1, 2009 update. (My guess was that the next pricing change (increase) would happen sometime in June 2010 to take effect July 1, 2010, but it didn't happen. So even though we don't know when BMW will make the change, one thing is pretty certain that the change will be an increase, not a decrease. So IMHO if you are pondering buying into this program you probably better get in on the current pricing before it changes)

For extended warranty you can either go with the new programs BMW introduced around 6 months ago or an aftermarket extended warranty. For the BMW options see here and the attachment:

Gold covers basically the same stuff as CPO. Platinum offers the best coverage and even includes things like the navigation system, however to be eligible to buy Platinum, the car must be well within its original 4 year / 50,000 mile warranty; in fact, it has to be within 45 months and 45,000 miles!!! So basically if you bought a CPO car that has coverage to 6 years / 100,000 miles, your only real option from BMW is Powertrain Plus coverage (unless you want to have 2 warranties covering you at the same time!) which would cover you after the CPO ran out. Pretty lousy option from BMW IMHO. For aftermarket extended warranty, Fidelity Warranty Services, Inc. has received high marks from board members and is apparently accepted at most (if not all) BMW dealers (contact your own dealers to verify this).
