Hi All,

We just picked up a 2006 CPO X5 and were offered the $1595 price for the maintenance to 6yr 100k. It was month end and we're in pretty good with the GM so it wasn't too difficult to get the right price.

Earlier post regarding your being swept off into the finance office after you think all negotiating is done is spot on....I've experienced it every time like clockwork!

OK. It was off-topic, since I can't provide pricing, but here it is:

My original response:

I can only answer from my own experience.

I liked my X5, but when it got to 4 years of age I went to my dealer, and asked what my options were with respect to extended warranties. I had promised myself that due to the complexity of the vehicle (electronics, sensors, etc) I wouldn't own it past 4 years without an extended warranty. There was no BMW coverage, but my dealer offered me a private warranty that they sold. I decided I didn't want it, and sold the X5. Good news is I got to buy a new 535i.

Unless BMW has changed their policy in the past year, you only have aftermarket warranties available. Realize that they aren't really warranties (which are based on defects) but are instead insurance policies underwritten by insurance companies.

The standard rule is that the house always wins (just like Vegas, it is just playing the odds) so on average, you won't win, they will make a profit on the warranty. Many will chime in that they came out ahead, but for every one that does, there will be two that didn't make claims equal to the insurance premium. If a single repair is not something that you can pay out of your monthly cash flow (a transmission can be $5000 for example) then an extended warranty (aka insurance policy) is a good idea. In my case, I just didn't want the hassle, so I traded it.

Hope that helps. I would check with your dealer, including asking who underwrites their warranty, and then decide. Do some research on the policy, see if others are happy or not. Good luck

The good news is for the E53 X5's the prices have NOT gone up. Same goes for the E70 X5's except for the upcoming diesel model which will cost $200 more. (Interestingly the B7 can't be covered and the M5/M6 owners will be shelling out $2995 MSRP, OUCH!) BMW still offers the extended enrollment option for cars that are no longer within 4 years / 50,000 (whichever comes first), BUT still within 5 years / 60,000 miles (whichever comes first). Both these programs will extend maintenance to 6 years or 100,000 miles. (Keep in mind that covers, as indicated, oil service with microfilter change, Inspection I, Inspection II, annual oil change, brake service, brake fluid flush, windshield wipers, topping off of fluids, and so forth). They also offer a 5 calendar day unenrollment period in case you change your mind.

Another good reason to know about the program is that as long as you are still within 5 years/60,000 miles and let's say your Inspection II pops up along with your brake lining light and you take it to the dealer who quotes you $2000+ for both jobs. You can buy the extended maintenance plan under the extended enrollment option on the spot and BMW will allow the work to proceed under your new maintenance plan!

In summary:

Cost of Extended Maintenance for 4/50 enrollment for the X5 (E53) X5 (E70 except diesel) X6 (E71)

$1495 dealer cost
$1695 MSRP

Cost of Extended Maintenance for extended enrollment for the X5 (E53) X5 (E70 except diesel) X6 (E71)

$1695 dealer cost
$1895 MSRP

This is now the latest pricing effective February 2009.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Dealers can charge whatever they want for these plans with some reportedly charging $500+ above MSRP + tax!

AS FAR AS I KNOW THE BEST DEAL STILL AVAILABLE IS ...

BMW OF MACON. IN MACON, GEORGIA
FOR X5 WORLD MEMBERS THEY WILL CHARGE YOU EXACTLY $100 OVER DEALER COST (SO FOR AN E53 X5 THAT COMES TO $1595 TOTAL FOR THE TWO YEAR PLAN) PLUS NO TAX IF YOU ARE OUT OF STATE.

THE CURRENT CONTACT PERSON IS MR. KIRT REIMSCHISEL - FINANCE MANAGER (478) 757-7000. (Josh no longer handles it)

(BTW, Full credit for the discount I believe should go to 'Rob' who set it up a while back)

Just called BMW of MACON, GA - Kirt Reimschisel - is no longer employed there. Got another contact at this dealership?

Extended Warranty

Try autoadvantage or autowarranties (same company) email [email protected]

Their rates came very low but good coverage, I'm tempted to go w/them(but may be too good to be true...so I'm skeptical). Anyone else has experience w/this Co.? Actually someone suggested from this Forum

I just got off the phone with BMW of Macon. I have been working with Mr. Kirt Reimschisel on purchasing an Extended Maintenance Plan for my 2006 X5 3.0i. Just to clarify its an additional 2 years 50,000 miles, which ever comes 1st, for a total of 6 years 100,000 miles. Just to let you guys know MR. JOSH DYAL is no longer handleing the Extended Maintenance Plan, Mr. Kirt Reimschisel is and he is a pleasure to work with. I was charged $1,595.00 for the extended 2 years 50,000 miles. My local stealer wanted $2,500.00 for the Extended Maintenance Plan, and they quoted me $1,200.00 for the INSPECTION II if i did not purchase the plan. I would really like to thank "Rob" for setting up this contact and helping us all get a great price on the Extended Maintenance Plan. I also want to thank X5 Meister for all the info he posted and all the research he did. If anyone is interested call BMW of Macon and ask for Kirt. Like it says above mention your from xoutpost.com and they will take care of you. Thanks Guys

I'm sorry if it's confusing. It is an extension of the existing maintenance plan that is 4 years/50,000 miles to 6 years/100,000 miles whichever comes first.

Read the attachments and they should make it clear. Let me know if you have any other questions.
