They really should stick with just getting people off of alcohol addiction. I think branching out to car warranties is going a bit far. Why does every company HAVE to diversify I ask you!

Do you have AAA? I read a couple of negative reviews on various websites stating that AAA is nothing more than a reseller. I worry about spending the money for the warranty and then having to fight to get the company to pay.

I've seen some negative feedback for fidelity, but most seems to be from ppl who may not have understood what their warranty covered and complaining about not replacing CV boots etc. Items that wear and tear usually aren't covered i.e. maint items like brakes and cv joints etc.

So ask questions before you buy. It's your $. Don't come and yell at me if fidelity doesn't pay for something. :-D

There are other companies out there as well. Just make sure you're comfortable with your coverage.

Lightly OT: But if you have a late model GM coming off of factory warranty soon, this may be of some interest. I bought my son an 07 Chevy cobalt sedan LS (base model..roll up windows!), and since it was under GM warranty through Oct or 36K miles, I started looking for an extended warranty since he'll be going off to college next year, and I won't be on hand after the warranty is over to change alternators,etc.

I checked with several local dealers and a buddy on the yourcobalt.com connected me to this site Black's Pontiac GMC GM outlet. Today I received the enrollment card and had my wife ( the attorney) look it over to make sure there were no surprises.

There are a few rules. Car has to be under the 36/36 warranty, and prices go up the higher you get to the 36K mileage. They offer 3 deductions 0, $100, $200. I found the delta between the $0 and $200 negligible enough that I opted to go for the $0 ded one.
I should warn that I was able to take advantage a $50 discount that ended on 4/30, so my bottom line for 4/48 (on top of the 3/36) for a darn close to a bumper to bumper no deductible good at ANY GM dealer (and so far several Indies) had a list price of $985 (no tax unless you live in PA), was discounted to $705 minus the $50 discount totaled $655..Not bad, and it even covers some "normal" wear and tear items. Note it does vary by class of car..a Cobalt is an "A" category, some of the more expensive ones (ie, Corvettes) will obvious be higher in price

Hope this helps some one. I know the topic of extended warranty is hotly contested, but for $655..all it takes is an air conditioner compressor or an alternator combined with a kid who doesnt know the right end of a screwdriver, and I sleep better for a relatively cheap price.

AAA is merely a RESELLER of other peoples waranty products. They have NOTHING to do with the transaction other than taking some cream off the top for their own pockets. I spent a lot of time researching them, they recently changed to a differed post-warranty dealer because of the onslaught of complaints and people cancelling the AAA membership.

Shows what happens when you get greedy.. Stick to what you know.. Trip-tiks, roadside assistance, gas when u run out, and the occasional battery boost..

Sales Tax on Extended Maintenance
 

Can any of the posters who live in Illinois and who purchased an extended maintenance contract from an Illinois dealer confirm that there is no sales tax? I was under the impression that services (and service contracts) were not subject to sales tax in Illinois. Thanks!
