Damn that was a long and rough night...!!! One of my friends from work opted to be DD with my X so I got to actually drink more than usual that night. (I think the unavoidable crowded parking lot in a bar-filled area is where my new door ding came from.....:() But overall a really fun night because I have a large group of friends that are all very excellent people.

But yes, you can still do car and key memory with the SSS, it's just a slightly different process. But when you get it up and running it will be easy as 1-2-pie.

Ok. $ question. How do I reset oil and service light with GT1? :D

Today played some more. I use VMWare. Set up separate hardware profile in XP, hardcoded IP there and disabled all other network connections but VMWare ones and LAN.

SSS Works. Head found no problem and I was able to connect to my car. It won't start session because of low voltage. SSS was "giving me a favor" referring to yellow head as to "old one" :)

But it works.

Between SSS and DIS it helps to disconnect head from car to reset it, otherwise DIS and SSS "compete" for the same head saying it's "occupied"

So, I got process down and I can use DIS just fine. If I get charger or whatever then I will be able to use SSS.

Took me about 20 minutes in DIS to browse around to figure out what's up with LCM. Had to go to Advanced Mode to figure that my license plate light out :)

So far I'm happy. Very cool. And I think I will sell my HDD with V43 if somebody interested in one.

Good to hear that it worked for you! What version and where did you get SSS? Didn't you experience slowness when you run DIS from VMPlayer?

If your car is a newer car like an E90 or E60 that doesn't go by "oil service/inspection I or II" but gets the "standard scope" + whatever other services are needed then you reset it with the GT1. Otherwise you reset it through the vehicle.

What year is your X5? Do you have the round 20 pin connector under the hood or just the OBDII 16 pin connector under the dash.

If it is just the 16 pin connector then you reset it through the button on the left of the cluster. (described in an article on the homepage I believe)

SSS should be same as ours v32 BUT fixed DVD.

Riaz should have received his good copy and I will re-distribute to anyone who needs it. That's if he has returned from being out of town. Haven't heard from him lately so not sure.

On the X5 you reset it through the cluster as described in here

But to supplement the round connector wire jump method, the pin 19 is just a ground, so you don't have to use that, just jump pin 7 to ground. Just turn the key on, jump pin 7 (second from the pac man mouth) to ground or pin 19 for about 12 seconds, then just as you pull the wire from ground tap the ground point one more time real quick. (don't know why but it always works that way, if you don't do the quick tap it doesn't work 1/2 the time)

katit 04-06-2009 10:42 PM

is that how they do it at dealership??!!

I sold my reset tool thinking I won't need it..

What about Inspection?

Weasel 04-06-2009 10:48 PM

We have the proper BMW special tool to reset the lights on the 20 pin round, and we go through the cluster on the others. (except the newer cbs cars) But when some lazy tech doesn't put the reset tool back for half a day I use the wire jump method rather than search around the shop for 30 minutes. It works the same really, what do you think the tool is doing internally when you hit the button?
