Yep, that was it...
The sticky-backed felt comes in little packs with 3 or 4 sheets (like 3"x5") - got mine at Ace Hardware.

I hope that solves the problem. I think it might becuase it sounds as if it we something hitting the glass. I looked at the latch and there are some indentations into my rear trunklid.

I tried it, it didn't work!! I'm so frustrated with this. I sat in the trunk for two seperate twenty minute rides.

Did it at least muffle the 'clunk' sound at all? Because you may need to adjust-out the hatch lid bump stops a bit as well... or even add some felt tabs to the stops. (If you have no idea what I'm taling about, check out this thread

Thanks very usefull information. That's what I thought too when the temperature keeps dropping here in Midwest. I realized there must be something wrong with the hatch. The other day, I opened the hatch and check out the rubber and noticed the rubber seem to shrunk.

I actually tried this aswell. Thanks, I think it might be the cold weather helping the noise. I had the dealership look at it. They said they couldn't reproduce the sound. I got upset and took the tech out for a drive and I certainly reproduce the noise. He tried to tell me it's common. So we test drove another X and no sound from that one. He adjusted the rubber stoppers but that didn't help. I think it might be the latch itself, but I felt taped everything.

I know how frustrating this can be... took me a long time to run down my X's 2 or 3 little rattles and clunks. I tried a lot of different things before I actually zeroed in on the sources - if nothing suggested here on the board works (and the dealer wants no part of it), then you may just have to get creative and try different things to see if anything affects the sound. Sooner or later, you'll nail it!
