Oddly enough the color combination on this car caused me to wait almost a full month before contacting the dealer. I spent a LOT of time scouring the web for a LeMans Blue on Black/Titanium finish. Couldn't make it happen. On the other hand, I think I was briefly familiar with every X5 4.8is for sale in the US. :) Now that I've had it a few weeks, I'm absolutely in love with it.

Yep, that be creme beige nappa leather all right. LeMans and Imola are the nicest colors these were available in (at least here in the states) imho. And if I were to have to pick... I'd take Imola anyday... so I think you lucked out not finding your unicorn. ;) BTW titanium trim is nearly impossible to find in a 4.8is. You see those in 4.4i and the older 4.6is. For some reason no one (or at least very few) ticked that box on the 4.8's

Yeah, I noticed. I did find one great example in NYC - LeMans, black/titanium with a Dinan package. Even a decent price. Unfortunately the dealership was an absolute pain in the ass to work with - rarely answered, no follow through on details, then out of the blue doing a hard sell on whether I wanted it. No way I'd work with them sight-unseen. End of the day I've come around to your way of thinking - Imola/creme. Only drawback is the color scheme almost perfectly matches my wife's Explorer (red, black leather, black grill/trim).

That sounds exactly like my buying experience... lol. Except I did buy sight unseen. There's a thread describing the ordeal. My first, and hopefully last car-buying experience that follows that story line. It worked out okay in the end (sales guy was actually very nice and accommodating), but it was a hassle for sure.

Well, welcome to the 4.8is club. It isn't super exclusive, but man is it a lot of fun. At least in between repairs. ;)

I've wrapped my interior trim in a number of colors so far... and haven't found one I'm happy with yet. I have the light wood color, forget the name of it. Supposed to be an upgraded option... but I don't like wood in my cars. :dunno:

Thanks. :) I hadn't known how rare they were until I checked the build data on mine (249 away from the the end of production). I'd thought my M3 was tricky - LeMans, black/carbon, cold weather packaged convertible.

I feel you on the wood. I have been thinking of doing a wrap. Never tried it before but looking at ~$1,000+ on eBay for a non-wood interior package makes the learning opportunity tempting. My only real concern is quality of the wrap material. I'd like to match the (real) carbon fiber in my M3, but fake carbon fiber tends to be absolutely awful.

Vinyls have gotten a lot better. Try a 3M DiNoc and I'd be surprised if you weren't happy with the look. It doesn't match glossy carbon fiber, but it does match matte carbon fairly closely.

I keep searching ebay, CL, and just about anywhere else I can think of looking for anything other than wood. I'll take cosmos, imola, titanium, etc. Don't care. :) I have a vinyl here that I wrapped the wife's X3 trim with that I am going to try in my car next. Here it is in her X3.

No Sports Seats?
Were they only optional on the US market 4.8is?

Ricky Bobby 08-04-2016 03:43 PM

^Comfort seats were standard on 4.8iS - Sport Seats were a no cost option

OrangeFurious 08-04-2016 06:21 PM

I was at the mercy of the marketplace, but I do like the comfort seats quite a bit. Never had the Sport to compare to though.

As for the wrap - hat looks really clean. How hard was it to do, any special tools/primer used?

Here's a couple more recent pic of our 4.6is.

Is that full cat back system or just mufflers?
