if its on the gate harness then the connector you want is inside the body behind a trim panel some place close to the opening.

Edit: let me go through my avin install pics and see if I have a shot of the connector. |

You can pull the rubber boot off and move it enough to find bad wires. If you need to repair more than a couple I would cut off the boot and glue back together with good silicone

Rubber conduit over nylon.
Sigh. Any idea which side wider controls go down. Would hate to have to cut both. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk |
Ok. Took the upper trim from the tailgate off. The lower part with the grab handles is holding on somewhere I can't reach.
The harness for the wiper and the lock def goes down the right side. Left side is all washer and 3rd brake light and defrost. So nothing running down the LH side of the trunk And the harness is def dropping in before the rear window is placed. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk |
So I don't see a way to access the harness and check wires without cutting the rubber and the nylon sheath.
Waiting for alternate suggestions https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7b5c879c42.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a62bbf42a6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6d43d032a6.jpg Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk |
Here's a thread to a gent with similar issues.
https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...-solved-2.html You can usually take the boot off the body side and slide it enough to find any problems with the wires. If memory serves, there should not be any nylon sleeving inside the boot where it passes wires into the body. Unless someone has been in there making a repair before anyway. I struck out on pictures of all 3 E53's with the hatches disassembled. Nothing in the way of the harness at the conduit or the harness connector inside the truck. |
What did you do to / for your E53 today??
The wires inside the boot are probably wrapped with tape you can cut that to get to the wires
