So it's been a little over one year into this E53, and I guess the "hey this thing that was happening last week isn't happening anymore" thing has finally reached the point of acceptance.

Driving to the workshop last week there was some obvious loss of power just cruising along in town at about 45mph. Just for maybe half a second. But it happned several times early in the week. No codes thrown.

But it's gone now. So are the thermostat and fuel trim codes. For now.

Move on!

E53 ownership is just a constant cycling between epiphany (after you fix it) and distrust/dread (while you are waiting for it to break again).

While I was taking my intake manifold off today (a surprisingly easy job) I did not find the source of my surging idle, but I did find a 6mm socket with two 1/4" extensions on it that I think I lost sometime in 2019. So I got that goin' for me.

That's amazing. I lost an ear bud that I never found. I did find a 10mm socket at least a year after it fell though.

I get the dread in tiny jabs every time I open a door (from inside or out) or open a window or the sunroof, or lock the driver's door with the key because the DLA won't anymore.... and I hope you did not find those tools IN the manifold.

Luckily not, it was in that cavity beneath the back of the intake manifold that you can't see without taking the manifold off.

I finally ponied up $200 to replace the driver's DLA last year. Quite a pain to replace but the peace of mind I had was really great, at least for the next week or so before the key cylinder in the driver's door broke! This last 12-18 months really has been a brutal stretch of ownership on this car.

I used to keep key cylinder spare in my glove box.

I have two junkyard ones that it might be worth at least plugging in to see if they lock AN unlock... not too hopeful but one never knows. Not too much work just to pop the door card off which needs attention anyway.

The driver's lock cylinder feels really sloppy and was kind of gritty but I shot some old Volvo lock lube I had in there and it feels a lot smoother. Repair kit at hand.

Well I finished my brakes and 100% front suspension today, plus plugs and coils along with transmission filter/fluid change.

But... One of the new coils (cyl 4) is shit and I have to wait 2 days till the parts place opens after the holidays![emoji854]

I need to check my links again. I think one or more than one is loose. I can hear a slight clunk. The first time, it was a front not tightened down well. A hex socket is needed to tighten them correctly.
