Get your mind out of the gutter guys, it's just a car app similar to Torque. Been popular with the newer chassis and they are now developing it more towards the older chassis too. Check out my video showing all the modules Carly can access on our E53's!

There is a really big thread on e90post where e9x owners had tons of problems with this app, and some guy even fried his FRM module using Carly.

I certainly hope that's not the case for e53, but I would think twice before using it. We both know how sensitive BMW electronics are.

I know the early revisions were pretty buggy, back when it was called BMWhat app, so that's why I didn't adopt it that quickly. However, I've been meaning to upgrade my diagnostics laptop (Dell D630 loaded with INPA/DIS) and stumbled upon a compelling thread using Carly as a new substitute to INPA/DIS because of the speed of it. What would take me 10 minutes to do takes 2 minutes, and the UI is so much more friendly.

I think there is a place for Carly. As always with coding, connect your car up to a charger so you don't brick your modules; in my case, I left the car running so the alternator could keep the battery charged.

put the mercedes tail light harness on my left tail light during my lunch break. used the instructions here:

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...t-fix-diy.html

aside from losing the white connector retainer down into the bowels of my hatch area somewhere, it only took 5 minutes and works just fine. my dash light would come on each time I'd drive the car until I held the brake pedal for about 5 seconds and it would go off. got tiring to watch/do.

Now I'm just curious if I can find that white retainer on another bmw at the u-pull since the crushed the only x5 last month.

I got a car wash, and picked "Cherry" for my air freshener.

Now my truck smells like Luden's.

I just got this tail light problem on a trip two days ago. Found the lower right lamp had a bad burn mark etc. It had been getting VERY hot too - thank goodness for the CC warning me!

Cleaned it up and used a small piece of aluminium foil to decrease the contact resistance but I'm going to make a more permanent repair (to all the lamps) soon - either this wired mod. or silver solder on the contact points. I'll remove the tail light assemblies to do this, as it will make it a LOT easier to do.

just fyi. the mercedes mod only cost $16.88 shipped off ebay and I didnt have to pull the housing out to do it. just popped the plug out after removing the interior panel and used one of the small precision flat blades and an 8mm socket to bolt the ground wire to one of the tail housing bolts. you literally pop one wire out of the tail harness and click it into the middle of the mercedes harness and swap your bulb and done.

much easier than fiddling with solder and such and its done forever. but thats just me.

If I can get them to NZ for US$16.88 ea I might do it that way but with the exchange rate and freight, it'll still work out at over for NZ$30 each lamp
holder and there's four to do. NZ$120 to fix this is more than it's worth, so silver solder it'll likely be! :dunno:

ahh gotcha. too bad you cant find any of the several models of mercedes they come from in a junkyard there.

edit: wow you're right, cheapest I could find on ebay australia was $25 shipped.

really makes me wonder what the exchange rate really is? like $1 US = $1.50 au??
