Not sure if I'm getting more HP and torque but it sounds wicked cool when it's sucking air. Attachment 54410

That's correct, AFE stage 2.

As far as the sprint booster, I have it on my Benz it makes a huge diference but the Mercedes drive by wire system is very laggy, the x5 is not that way, I dont think that is going to feel much diferent with the SB.

pnoyako85 05-14-2012 10:13 AM

NIce...congratulation!......should be more fun when yo here that cai suck air....

After the new spark plugs and Juice (oil), then came the fun part...

Where is "Stop & Stare" located.

Glad Tom helped you, he's a good dude. He guided me to baking mines and installing AE's. My AE's are off now, I think one of my ballast gave out on me. I ordered new ones but just haven't had time to do it.

Installed an OEM hitch. It was doable but a bitch. You have to tear up everything to get to things. My MDX hitch install was much easier and well thought from an engineering stand point (installation). For the X5, I recommend the dealer route unless you have a half day to spare. The instructions on this form was a life saver. Thx for those who contributed!

Gotta find a way to get my darn retrofitted AE's to stay on. They come on/off whenever they feel like it.

I will be putting up for sale two (left/right) 4.6is rear spoiler side caps. They are in Saphire Black, have a few scratches.

Thanks. Did buy them from a member on here, not sure if that is his name. About the tips, my rear bumper was hit by a natural asshole that doesn't know how to park and the hit displaced it. I need to remove it and re-seat it. I'm too lazy to do in this NYC heat.

What do you have on the E39 before the switch back?

MINIz guy 05-30-2012 09:35 PM

Britalman cans and x-pipe. I loved the sound but should be able to get an easy $1600-1800 for the system. That can be used to do some maintenance and repairs on the car that's needed.

I'll probably do a muffler delete with the stock setup to still retain some of the noise and burble that I have on my Britalmans. My current one is really aggressive and turns heads all the time and a muffler delete is maybe half as aggressive. Perfectly fine with me since I'll have some more money in my pocket.

Replaced leaky valve cover gasket, installed new plugs, replaced VANOS with rebuilt Dr Vanos unit. Would have just installed new O-Rings, but without a table vice I was willing to pay an extra $190 for the full unit. Everything went well, and I took my time as it was my day off and I needn't work as if I was on the clock. Currently at 74K.

SlickGT1 06-01-2012 12:21 AM

Installed harmonic balancer after mine seemed out of round. 4.8is is the best car to work on. 1 hour start to finish. Fan comes out in 1 min, on clips. So much more space. Very easy job.

sapphireX5 06-03-2012 01:38 AM

Well today I accepted an offer and the new owner will be picking it up on Monday and driving it to its new home in Colorado.

I really hope I'm not making a mistake since I love this truck so much. I ordered a new car a few weeks ago and it's set for European delivery in September.

My new ride will be a 2013 535i xDrive with Msport and nicely equipped with many other options.

It's been great hanging around this forum for advice and DIY's as well as just understanding my rig more. Maybe if I hate my new car I'll be shopping for another '06 4.8iS

All the best!

sunney 06-07-2012 10:37 PM

I just bought this car about a week ago. It's been driving great and everything works.
I parked it out on the patio and the right front tire was down in a small indentation (2-3") now the front suspension is sagging. The passenger side a little worse than the driver's side. The car doesn't have the adjustable suspension option. Will it correct itself? Had the car thoroughly inspected and everything was good. Have ltd warranty from seller.

It stalled at stop light. SES with P0011. Had done this two more times this year and I had ordered both camshaft sensors but never got a chance to replace them. Replaced them both but problem is still there.

the Rear hub on x6 fits the rear X5..or the other way around..the Front of x5 and x6 has DIFFERENT hub centric due to big brake of the x6....here's what i was trying to do when i 1st got the x6..it looks good with black rims...but i need new front Hub centric i believe..i kinda like the x6 rims on the x5 for some reason..it hug all the space and looks bigger on the x5

FITZUNI 06-11-2012 11:36 AM

Got my Air Con Fixed. Thanks BMW for mis-diagnosing my shit. BMW of MT. Kisco told me it was my compressor, so I bought a new one and air con still wouldn't work. Took it to BB&Z as recommended by Papasmurf and come to find out, it was the climate control unit that had a short and was sending wrong output to compressor. Slapped a used one in and now the shit is freezing. So now I have an extra compressor.

Also took my 87's to Elite Coatings to get them powder coated Gunmetal, get them back tomorrow. Will update with pics tomorrow.

Well,
I re-wired my angel-eyes (DEPO headlights), used to be tied to fog lamps but it flickers when off due to LCM test signal.

I tapped the parking light (one click on the main headlight switch), to power an opto solid state relay to activate an ACC (accessory) line to power-up a 30AMP relay (I kno wit's an overkill ratingwise but) that turn the AE on/off. Very clean since I don't need to add aftermarket switch on the dash and no flicker on AE. This rather elaborate wiring cause I want to make sure when engine off the AE is off not draining the batt.

You need to do the "same brand/style rear tire" mod on your X.

Drill a hole through that. Slow speed, metal bit. Go slow, don't burn the bit.
Keep going to bigger sizes till you are closer to the threads. Once you are close enough, take a chisel and collapse the remaining into the new hole.

You can also try screw extractor kit, but that will be a hit or miss.

Chances are you will need to clean up the threads, so you might have to run the threads through with a tap.

Are those 20mm spacers? If so, the OE wheel bolts should have had the 1st thread ground off (shorter length) before installing. When full length bolts are used they bottom out on the hub surface the spacer is mounted on, the end of the bolt mushrooms and the 1st thread is so deformed that it will not back out thru the spacer insert.

They're not, they are DRA 25mm. I used the supplied shorter bolts to mount to rotor then my OE bolts to mount to spacer.

Just double checked the box my spacers came in, they are also 25mm DRAs. you needed to grind approx 1/16" off the ends of the bolts to prevent them from bottoming out on the hub and deforming, I can see by the triangular shape on the end of the bolt in your pic that this was not done, you can also see the end of the bolt was mashed into the hub. H&R told you to go kick rocks because they provide details in the installation instructions to avoid this issue.

I didn't see any instructions in regards to grinding off the ends of the bolts. The only instruction I see are to NOT use an impact gun to torque, to always hand tighten the bolts. And I believe that was the case, the last time I did rear rotors, the idiot probably used an impact gun to tighten ALL the bolts.

There were 2 instruction sheets provided with the 25mm DRAs I installed last year but I noticed the issue when I slipped the spacer into the wheel hub and inserted a bolt thru the wheel and spacer, it protruded a full tread.

I think so... 25mm H&Rs were $130 shipped for me (from ECS) – looks & handling improved slightly. I've ran spacers on my daily drivers (many different sizes & wheels) and have never had a problem.

No issues with the H&R 25mm DRAs along with a 10mm ET wheel shift and a 255 to 285 (30mm) tire width increase. Moved the tire sidewall out 50mm a side.

should've kept the rear badging and just dipped it. Now ya gotta dip the rear roundel holder. Looks good regardless though.

DTMdan 07-01-2012 11:14 AM

Well I removed it so the rear was symmetrical, not because of the chrome.

pnoyako85 07-01-2012 11:29 AM

i did that on mine @dark.

Noticed a loud metal to metal noise and thought my right front cv joint with a torn boot finally gave up.

Come to find out, the guilbo bolts have backed out and one bolt has fell off and causing the centering flange to hit the transmission case every rotation of the driveshaft.

Because the dealer is closed, I cant get the replacement bolts, I'm replacing the outer cv boot. It's a very messy job but not too difficult with the help of studying all the write ups here.

Good news, I thought I was going to have to replace the complete right cv joint, but it's only going to turnout to be a less than $20 job.

where did you get your 25mm H&R spacers? ECS is on backorder

DTMdan 07-02-2012 06:16 AM

Thanks. I got mine from ECS... ModBargains carries them as well, but they're more expensive H&R TRAK+ Spacers BMW X3/X5/X6 You should be able to find some on eBay too.

ayep, those'll reflect back atcha' nicely (shiny tailgates, store windows)..
are they DRL or parking (DRL, me, but we just turn 'em on full-time for the HIDs as we hate the half-hi-beam orange crap)

pnoyako85 07-02-2012 11:04 PM

no they are regular right now(non drl)...i turned off my DRL's cnt get the amber to turn off tho....but annoyingly they blink when i put my alarm on and when they go off..just worried they may burnt out from blingking when alarm goes and when lock and unlock the car.
