This X has some higher mileage, but looks like it has premium package and 6 speed with price of $9998 and "make offer" on the listing:
BMW : X5 3.0i in BMW | eBay Motors Good price for a 6 speed X which looks fairly clean to me, and you'd still have money for some preventative maintenance! |
^^^ that's been sold awhile ago from the response I got when I made an offer :(
|
well i'm not surprised that was a pretty hot price for a facelifted 6 speed!

After about 500 mile on the new rig. The trans is still finicky ( No i haven't changed fluids yet or removed the valve probably wont get to it till next week) It shifts much nicer before its been driven a lil while and then i have to match revs most of the time to get a smooth shift. I'm not winning any drag races off the line thats for sure with it the way it is. I'm afraid the syncros are worn pretty good. Is this just how these are or should it be shifting like a real BMW nice and smooth etc...

I'm telling you man, go to Zeckhausen racing and replace your Clutch Delay Valve with his unit, and then bleed your brakes/clutch, will be MUCH SMOOTHER shifting, trust me

Just removed the CDV. Took about 6 mins. (not including the 10 mins to get the wife out to bleed the clutch). Does feel a lot better. Guess Ill need to drive it around for a bit to see the difference.
It looks like it just restricts the flow by having a very small hole in it. So my guess is the Zeckhausen racing ones just make the hole bigger. Save your $ I say. |
The CDV has an springed orifice inside which slows the flow, hence delaying clutch action.
Drilling alone will not get it all, and will leave cuttings inside. You need a special drift, a vice and practice to get them out without damaging the inside, threads and the conical seats. Be happy your car is transformed. Cry for those who don't know that "life can be better" |

Bleed that clutch and you are good to go, I promise you the shifts will be smoother (especially since you say your linkage is working smoother) |

When you say shifts will be smoother, we should qualify that clutch engagement will be smoother, or more predictable, but that doesn't relate to gearshift notchiness, which I think of when hearing the synchro comment that was originally mentioned. |
