Like you see I took my wheel of to try to attach the far end of the arch in the rear. The kit has a template for me to stick on the rear bumper and make the right insertion.<br />

When I took my wheel off and I think the wheel well cover (not sure of this what u call it) I looked behind and was confused how to continue. I know I'm supposed to use the template and make some insertion into my 3.0 rear bumper. But instructions from the manufacturer or someone in the forum would help.

i dont know how to explain it..but here is a pic.....ill talk to Panda...and he'll better explain it..

on the pic....i made basically holes on the bumper since i didnt want to silicone it........what i did is ...

-Do this instructions first without making hole onyour bumper.....when your ready to make holes....line it up................
THE Toggle piece will be tight to fit in the bumper trim but just make a nice hole and make space for toggle to fit at the back of the bumper trim.....once you get it...lined up..attach the toggle onto the screw then lock it with a 5/16 hex head and pull the flares towards the trim.....you'll need DREMEL and SCrew Gun to do this...




Taggle Bolt 1/4x3inch

small copper color metal rod
.39c screw with a hex bolt (5/16th head) on the end tip

- measure the end flare and and cut the rod to fit inside the flares when you put the metal rod inside the flares..make sure its nice and snug as you will be pulling your flares from the rod.....
....on the pic ( white paper).....you see how i draw the Rod+screw+ toggle piece and the hex to pull the toggle along with the flares to secure it...

You'll have to cut all those little pieces that sticks out from the flares....

PS...on the Toggle BOlt Box..how i put the pieces is how you put it on the flares...

Is the first picture from the rear view of your X5? Did take the whole rear standard 3.0 bumper off?

Really? Using hardware that's prone to vibration failure? These are normally used to hang light items from a drywall ceiling.

What's your suggestion ?

How much does it cost to fix wheel bearing?

I use small screws to atttach the flares on my X5. I know mrbmwx5 did the same thing. His flares was on for years with many miles and no issue at all. Stock mounting clips do come off, ask Big"J" how he lost his.

BMW already engineered the retention issue for the problem, short of re-desigining an attachment package that does not include static load butterfly bolts I would think the logical fix would be OE.

Butterfly bolts are for static loads only (hanging a small potted plant from the ceiling), Automotive panels are subjected to dynamic loads such as wind buffeting while passing 18 wheelers at hwy speeds.

If a I received my X back from a repair/mod shop and found those fasteners on my vehicle, I would be back there in a flash and standing on somebody neck!
