Unreal. It is truly anarchy. Just a reminder, if your panel is still on, shut it off at the service disconnect. The surge coming in may not be a true 100amps, 150amps or 200 amps. If the surge comes in and your panel can't handle it, it will pop the circuit and cause a fire.

True. But this is technically not my field. I have a plumber that always does all this stuff. Only problem is that his house is in a lot of pieces, and his van floated away, with his tools, and yea....

We just finished framing his shit back up. He can at least sleep at home now. Sort of.

How are you guys doing there. I hear Jersey fuel situation is much better. We still can't get any. Well we can if you want to stand for a half day. I have 50gal of cans right now. Convinced my pops to drive out to Jersey and bring back 22 if he can. This is absolute bullshit. They really have us by the balls with this fuel situation.

It is better but still running into the problem about running out of fuel. Lines are shorter but so are tempers. More and more buildings are being condemned and torn down because of structural issues.

It really is horrible.

And with this nor'easter... I don't know. What ever surge we get will wipe whatever is left. But not it looks like it is changing to snow. Before it was rain, but now snow.

I'm going to make sure I have a full tank of gas and all my gas cans full for my snow thrower - just in case. I doubt we'll get much, if anything, in MD but I learned my lessons after the last few big snow storms.

Kinda like ... sometimes its better to have no luck at all vs. having bad luck.

It's very easy to see why there's a fuel problem in our area. In my town, 54% of the folks still have no power as of today. We've lived through many major storms while living here, and there's never been so much damage to power lines, AND such a poor response by Con Ed. I understand that Con Ed is following some presumably sensible prioritization of its resources, but this is the worst storm response I've ever seen in terms of manpower in our area. I presume the've "robbed from Peter to pay Paul," sending resources normally allocated to our area to the city. I also hear they are running out of materials; specifically wire. At the rate they are going, it's going to be a month before some homes see power.

If just 50% of those still without power in our town are running 5,000w generators, (certainly many have much more powerful units), that's about an extra 28 gallons per week of extra consumption per week, per household. I'd bet that probably about doubles the average fuel consumption per household, (although probably a bit less than double for the households with V8 X5s:p:). I don't see how the current system of wholesale deliveries can keep up to demand. Even if there's enough fuel at the depots, there simply are not enough tankers.

I'm basing this on the fact that a 5,000 watt generator takes about 15 gallons per day to run, assuming about 50% load, running non-stop. At least this is what mine uses.

The only thing that can possibly ease this gas situation is the restoration of household power throughout the area. All the gas stations in my town are currently sold out. They get their deliveries, then sell out in a day or so. Wait a couple of days closed, then they open for a day.

One thing I did do to help out was lend my generator to my friend and local BMW Indie. (Always helps to get on their good side.) Besides, he's got three very little kids at home.

I don't get how this is still happening. They opened the Holland Tunnel today. I plan on packing up my F150 with gas cans. I think I can load up 40 gal worth. I hear there is ZERO fuuukin lines in NJ, all you can buy. I really don't understand this shit. They need to do the ration thing in NY like they did in NJ, at least that will keep the damn hoarders out.

They can get fuel into damn Afganistan on helicopters, and we can't get shit here. I understand there are a couple of million people in each city, but seriously. This is some shit.

ConEd is working hard. I hear they are bringing in people from other states to help out. The problem is that a lot of places are inaccessible. Yea I know they are trying to fix up the city, but seriously, there are schools closed down because they are shelters. People are freezing.

This teaches us all a lesson. I am going to be ready for the next one. First, getting a standby genset, Natural Gas connected. Second, going to make sure I have at least 30 gal worth of tanks in my shop. I might even buy those 30 gal barrels and fill it up before the next storm.

This is just too much BS. I got $40 worth of gas yesterday. Yea that did a lot.
