As of now...BMW doesn't have the "parts" to fix the issue. The letter says:
IMPORTANT NOTICE

Please note that at the present time, we do not yet have sufficient parts to conduct this recall; however, we will notify you as soon as parts become available. At that time, you should make an appointment with your authorized BMW center in order to have this recall performed on your vehicle.

OTHER INFORMATION

...We will notify you again when parts become available, currently scheduled for March.

This is why I encourage anyone with a 2006 E53 to go to BMW's website and create a profile and provide contact info if you aren't in their system...or not sure if you're in their system. :)

My local dealership ordered the replacement part on Monday and it is already here. I have an appointment on the 30th.

Ditto that. I bought mine in October and got the letter from BMW USA this week. I assume the seller [an indy bimmer specialty shop] reported my purchase/address to BMW. No parts til March, and they are supposed to send another letter then reporting availability.

Updated my info. I guess I need to wait till March.

I'm having a problem with the over head "passenger side air bag off" light coming on and off randomly when nobody is sitting in the passenger seat and just today I started getting the fasten seat belt warning and nobody was in the passenger seat

Yes, we got a notice also, too bad they won't fix the SAS also

Just came back from the dealer and according to my VIN number there is no recall on mine ? it's a 2006 build in the US 08-2006 - bought in Arizona.

Did you just ask if there's a "recall" on your X5? Or did you give them the specific campaign number?

You'd have better luck finding out if you fall under the recall if you use the contact information that is listed in the PDF (there's a link in post #1). In the PDF, you'll see the recall campaign number as well as contact info (email & toll free nbr).

Also, BMW USA (formally North America) and BMW Canada are 2 different BMW Groups...sometimes they don't follow the same recalls. I'd contact one of the Headquarter contacts versus a local dealership...sometimes the locals aren't really up to snuff on things of this nature until someone comes in with official documentation...or a specific campaign number.

The most recent US safety recall, as far as I know, is for the passenger seat occupancy sensor mat, No. 13V-564. I believe someone posted a picture of the notice. Mine came in mid-January. Parts not available til March. Search here for 13v-564 and that notice should kick up.

The notice states its for 2006 X5s, so it should apply to the OPs' AZ bought E53.
