Thanks for posting the recall. I just bought a 2006 X5. I hooked my computer to see what is wrong and needed to get fixed. That seat sensor was one of the items my computer told me, the others were to change the transfer case fluid (said it is dirty) and replace one of the PDC sensors. Now I need to notify BMW that I'm the owner.

Many thanks for posting this. I was just going to order this mat ($500) today and thought I should check this forum. I purchased my 4.8is used from a dealer so I never got the letter. Refer to service bulletin SI#657506. Covered for 10 years no mileage limit.

If you own an e53 X5 that falls within the production range...and you're not the original owner...and you've never taken the vehicle to a BMW dealership to have work performed (they'd have your VIN and contact info)...then go to your BMW market's website and set up a profile so that BMW has contact information for your VIN (obviously have your X5's 17 digit VIN or at least the last 7 digits handy so that you can enter it on the site).

Those in Canada...go to BMW Canada (I believe their site is BMW Canada and look for the MY BMW link (should be across the top of page)...and for those in other BMW markets...do the same...find your BMW market's website and update your info if you want to be contacted for recalls and such.

Thanks Qsilver7. I will update my cars on that site. I do so much of the work myself that the dealer connection gets severed.

I updated my account with correct bimmers. Thanks Qsilver7.

Qsilver to the rescue again. I was wondering where my paper is. I definitely have this damn problem, it is intermittent, but still pisses me off when it pops up an airbag light and the overhead light at the same time.

So what do you guys do? Just call the dealer, give them the TSB and then what? Schedule an appointment?

Last time I tried to schedule an appointment with BMW in NYC, when I showed up for my 7:30am one, I was maybe the 100th car in line. Appointments don't mean jack shit it seems.

As of now...BMW doesn't have the "parts" to fix the issue. The letter says:
IMPORTANT NOTICE

Please note that at the present time, we do not yet have sufficient parts to conduct this recall; however, we will notify you as soon as parts become available. At that time, you should make an appointment with your authorized BMW center in order to have this recall performed on your vehicle.

OTHER INFORMATION

...We will notify you again when parts become available, currently scheduled for March.

This is why I encourage anyone with a 2006 E53 to go to BMW's website and create a profile and provide contact info. :)
