Here we go again.....
Well, at least I went 5000+ miles in between check engine lights this time. I think this makes 7 in 12 months.

Whew, 19 pages about this issue!
My CEL stayed on after startup one morning on my new X5 35i. It had just 900 miles on the odo. Emailed service dept at dealer and tech said okay to drive but if light does not go away in a few days, bring the vehicle in for a check. I did after three days. The diagnosis was a failed/faulty DMTL pump. They had one in stock, which is sort of scary, and had the new pump installed and I was on my way in less than 2 hours. Odo now at 1500 miles and the light goes out after startup like it should. Hope it was just a bad batch of pumps. |

"CEL came on" is not considered "the failure". CELs are caused by perhaps 100 of different things..lemon laws typically require 3x the same fault, and/or a period of 'out of service' (ie 30 days) |

This time the light went out on its own. :dunno: I have an appointment for Tuesday that I'm going to cancel. |

Of course the code is stored, and they can read it even after the light is off. "Things" like filling the tank with the engine running or loose gas cap (evap code). GL A |
