And I won't rank them. I have some opinions on the three players I mentioned, which you apparently agreed with. The problem for any consumer trying to evalate these and other tunes are that the sites have a lot of fanboys, many interested in validating their own purchase. There is no independent testing or comparison. There is also a lot of misinformation on whether or not tunes have the ability to impact warranty claims.

If you want more, search. Read up on information be familiar with what you tell others then post up. Otherwise it looks like youre just saying crap blindly. If you were wanting a x5 specific 2010 flash. Ess has a flash at home unit for $1200.

Oh sorry, my mistake. Yes the E90 335 and the E90 330 D and possibly a few others on the list still used the older EDC16 ecu. It is the others that used EDC17 anti-tuning which cannot be flashed via OBD port. - I have first hand experience with the anti-tuning ECUs BMW are now using so I am not "just saying crap blindly"

All of VAG motors are now using the Bosch anti-tuning ECU's, BMW are not far behind.

The JBD is a simple PnP tune that alters the fuel rail pressure. There are almost 200 out in use now and they work great. It is based around our JB+ gasoline tuner of which there are over 2500 out over the past few years with zero reported issues. We've monitored EGT among other parameters and feel the algorithm used is well within the safety limits of the BMW diesel motor.

It's based around an 18F processor @ 8mhz. A much simpler processor could handle the task but we just used the faster than needed 18F for it as we use them in other applications and buy them in bulk. I don't believe the tuning can be easily implemented using discrete components (e.g. resistors/diodes/caps) as it requires many non-linear functions. It would take a circuit board full of components vs. a using a single micro controller with atod/dtoa.

The inside of the JBD is similar to our JB+:

We have a 14 day guarantee on them and are happy to extend that to 30 days if any xpost users would like to do an extended comparison, dyno testing, etc.

The JB4 for gasoline motors is a much more complex product, featuring can integration, built in code reading/deleting, in dash gauges, steering wheel control map switching, and huge power gains. But if you have a 335D or X5D our JBD tuner is one of the few options for gaining power while avoiding codes on USA spec cars.

Bimmerpost (which e90post is part of) is a huge for-profit business. :cue infomercial analogy:

You will find biases on any forum. However, you are more likely to see honest and open discussion on n54tech. It tends to be a bit more mature of a group overall as well. Yes, it is owned & hosted by Terry Burger of BMS. He makes no secret about it. n54tech is a true open forum where anyone can voice their opinions & experiences positive OR negative. As a longtime member, I have never seen any posts on n54tech be deleted. I can’t say this of e90post where posts and entire threads vanish on a daily basis. If people are looking for information on BMS products above & beyond what’s found on the sales site they wont go wrong on n54tech.

I agree with JCL, ranking is all relative. The major US tuners in alphabetical order:
- BMS
- Cobb
- Dinnan
- GIAC
- Vishnu (Proceede)

Hello.
Firstly, Can you post a photo of the inside of a JB Diesel tuning box. The above photo you posted is of the inside of a petrol tuning box application which is totally different and irrelevant as to what this thread is about.

I would like to see a photo of the inside of the tuning box you sell for the diesels named JBD with a green and red wire coming from it.

If you somehow have no photo of it, can you confirm that the box does not consist of a resistor?

Thanks,
Aidan

I think people would be happier if they knew how a product works and what it consists of and the technicalities of it.
I don't see why members should jump and join other forums to obtain feedback from different people.
At the end of the day, this thread is about a little black with two wires, it is not rocket science.

I await an internal photo of the diesel tuning box from Terry

If you actually believed that Aidan, you wouldnt be a memeber here. You'ld be browsing the general BMW section on CarForums.net - Automotive Chat Forum - CarForums.net - Your Number One Source For Automotive Discussion

Attached is a "xposed xxx" photo from our 2010 X5D. The board consists of a single 18F2431 processor, analog input, PWM - LPF output, and trim pot for user adjustment. Not an overly complicated product but it doesn't need to be. If it were possible to implement the same logic with discrete components we happily would.

I think you are confusing real piggyback chip tuners with eBay "resistor" scams.

Kloogy 01-19-2011 09:47 PM

Thanks Terry. I anxiously await for the Geniuses response.

And that'll b the last of me posting flash tunes in this thread, too OT and sorry to OP.
