Guys quick question re wheels and tires

I've got the option to swap out standard X5 35d wheels for something different. After much consideration I've decided to go with 19's Y211 that come standard with 4.8i ...I just like the look of them over the 18' 'stars' that come standard with 35d.

BMW will swap out for around $5k ..does this sound reasonble? or am I being stitched up? Glad I ddint want the 20's now as I would hate to think what that 'swap out' cost would be :wow:

Anyway - do any of you have the 19' Y211 ? if so, what RFT come standard? (suspect bridgestone?) and what do they drive look, feel like etc (18's have Conti's)

thanks for any feedback

Sounds like a stitch-up to me...

.dee - answering your <$100k question may depend on 1) have you found what you want that is available (i.e. in stock)? if so then current incentive runout bonus, diesel credit, corp discount, and negotiation should get you just below that mark drive-away - push hard my son.

if its 2010 MY factory order - then perhaps a little more (say $105k) ..but you can get exactly what you want. If its a 2011 (whcih doesnt sound like it) ..then not a chance ..+ you'll be waiting until July/Aug I suspect ....

I suspect if its 3d innovation then its on the yard somewhere in Australia right? if so then youi'll be right I reckon ..often it means that one dealer has to haggle with another to get their hand on runout stock ... most of the time they play well together as a 'network' ..but when pressure is on (esp for popular colours, specs etc) they can be a bit 'precious' if you know what I mean ..good luck.

thanks all, getting the 3d to drive around for the week, my dealer whom i bought quite a few cars from is looking for stock and availability, price wise the <$100k was purely as an indicative target to aim to in the upcoming negotiations. Thanks all for your input! looking forward to joining the x5 club.

also what is the diesel credit that you were referring to?

1+ on the stitch up

shit guys ..I think you're right on the stitch-up ..

I havent signed anything so might just tell them to forget about it .... will save time for delivery etc as well .. an no doubt they'd skimp on proper alignment etc when fitting the new ones ...

for the sake of a few cosmetic differences I reckon I'm better off keeping the $5k in my pocket ... perhaps put it towards the 2012 model ;)

thanks again for input ..its helped me make a decision ..

sorry Anzer, didnt mean to turn you off the wheels. when you buy a 100k car, you need to make sure your happy with what you got. IMO no point saving 5k and not being 100% happy with the looks. Get what you want the first time! only reason i thought it was a stitch up is because from what i remember the 215 21's are around 8900 i think. let us know how you go

agred ..but $5k

is still a lot of money for anyone ... I think if they came back and said something like $2k then it would make sense ... they would basically be taking my brand new 35d 18's off (when car arrives in around 3 weeks) and swapping over 19's .... so I would have thought that the price difference between the two sets would be more like $2k - rather than $5,530 fitted ....I would like the 19's but might just save the $$ and reinvest in future X5 upgrade fund circa 2012 / 13 .. and I;m sorta use to the 18's as they are still an ok lookingf wheel/tire combo ... with option to put chains on if I want to take kids skiing

True 5k is a lot of money.. Not sure if this would work, but possibly you could buy some from the u.s. And get them shipped. That way you could keep your 18' for the snow or flog them off to fund the 19's. Has anyone else tried this?

Good suggestion, perhaps once 18 tires are ready for replacement

you pay $5000 for 19' swap out? which dealer is that

I've got 21' double spoke black on my car and I paid $3000, beside trading in 18' standard + 19' included in Sport package. Maybet it helps when you negotiate the price.
