Glad to hear the X5 was best. Would be interested to hear how the others actually compared.

You should be able to get a run-out deal on the MY10's. Push hard for at least 20% off list.

+1 on a small review on how they compared (especially the GL)

Are you still able to order the 35d optioned? Just thought maybe aus allocation might already be full?

Btw great to see you gave other cars a try and didn't just automatically assume X5 was the best (which we all know it is)

I got my 135i dms tune done in Brisbane. Managed to knock off 15% for cash. Always worth bargaining especially in a slow economic climate.

OK, just back from test driving the 35d sport and had a long chat with sales regarding to my10 vs my11.

Yes, you can still get a fully option up x35d but not order one. Any current order will be my11.

Anyway, I was prepared to secure a deal on my10 but was disappointed as seeing only less than a few k drive away price difference between my11 4d fully optioned vs 35d fully optioned. The dealer (Doncaster BMW) I went to would not negotiate the price much, and I was told before xmas it was very cheap due to their bonus system. :stickpoke I guess they don't have much stock left either, so no pressure. I tried a little bit to push down the price and the salesman seems not interested in listening to me anymore. After three hours at the dealer, I decide to wait till June/July for my11 and will put in an order in the next week or so.

The MY11 will come with sunroof, comfort access and head up info as standard and lose TV and voice control.

They have my10 35d sport with sun roof, 7 seat, innov package in stock, so if anyone wants one, hurry, er... and tell me if you get a good deal.:dunno:

a quick comparison summary,

GL is a nice car, but wife concludes it's way too big a car after failing to fit it in a car park slot, nearly 5.1m long. we all like it being comfortable, practical especially third row seats and surprised how easy to drive the big one round the corner and perhaps more refined albeit it's slower. Diesel engine is less noisy.

Q7, em... same length as GL and didn't really appeal us much, if a Q7, why not GL was the question. Q7 perhaps has the best interior though, personal taste. Good deal available though, without asking much, the salesman was ready to knock off 20k for a quick delivery.

xc90 was a bit too slow, even for the wife and it's showing its model age. Build quality doesn't seem as good as others either.

Will get a my11 40d , need to learn how to be patient.

two day dealer experience: MB the best, volvo second, BMW third and Audi last.

I first tried 20%off list, and was laughed out, got me a red face.

Tried 15%, still a NOOOOO way.

Tried 10%, no, "a lit bit more to be realistic."

OK, 8% off, and I will take it next week, "yes, but without third row seat" (5k option).:dunno:

I laughed, and ask why wouldn't I get a MY11 then, dealer said, ok, happy to put an order in for you and will deliver in June/July.:wow:

So I will wait

Guys, I reckon ...

Just go 2011 model. Dealers don't seem to be discounting much with 2010 35d because stock is low and some people will decide they can't wait until July/August .. Doncaster BMW Melb has 35d driveaway advertised today for about $118 k. It doesnt sound like it has too much fruit on it apart from innovation and sunroof (i.e. dont think its a sport) .. and its a demo (so you;d expect 3-4 k off because of that) ..so that's a pretty avg deal I reckon.

If sunroof, comfort and HUD are standard on 2011 now as per post then this makes it well worthwhile. sunroof is a no brainer, comfort would be VERY useful as fiddling with key is a pain esp with kids stuff constantly in hands, and HUD is actually pretty good and useful if you want to hold on to your licence (its a bit like a speed nanny and i wish I had it!)

I'll live with my 2010 35d for two years, then flick over ...probably to 50i with 7 seats as my daughter will be 7 then and can legally get out of booster etc ..right now 7 seats just doesnt work as I have 2 kids under 6.

Why 50i and not 40d you may ask? we'll ...they promised 8.8l//100 combined. I do mosty city driving and Im getting more like 16 in the real world, so figure that I might as well get 20l/100 from 50i and enjoy the extra oomp and fruit for marginal increase in fuel bills relative to the price of the car (and we only do about 8k per year if that)

Good luck guys, be patient and keep wallet closed until June/July delivery ..I rushed in and overall wish I had waited 6 months extra ... but that's life ..can't complain too much as the 35d is still great and reality is its impossible to always have the very latest unless you are willing to turnover each 18 months ...

If you get 16s from you 35d, you'll be close to 30s from the 50i!! I had a X6 50i for a week and I got 17s in the same driving environment (ie country) that I get 8 to 9s from my 3.0d.

I really can't understand how you can get 16s from your 35d. Just seems way too high unless there's something drastically wrong with your car or you drive it hard in a very severe driving environment.

ADR Combined Cycle figures have the 50i using 67% more fuel than the 40d (12.5 vs 7.5) and you have the extra cost of 98 or 95 RON.

Hey fraser, just wondering where you get your diesel from? I know with my work truck that the fuel economy is best when I use the bp ultimate diesel(not that there seems to be any in the country at the moment). I did go to another cheaper branded company for a while and the fuel economy went stupid to the point I thought there was something wrong with my truck. After a tank of the bp all was back to normal.
