Ouch. I have not seen that before. Depending on the shape of the arm I'd try to weld it if I could get a good bead around all three mounting holes. Your arm will obviously no longer be removable but that is sure a fell of a lot cheaper than a new block.

If you have a good welder, then have it welded up, add reinforcements (on both sides) and reinstall.

However, while that motor is out, I'd replace all the pesky seals/gaskets/etc. You know if you don't that oil gasket behind the alternator will leak the first day you get the X5 back.

Odd, not the first time I've seen this kind of thread. Not a lot of insight, but you aren't alone.

How the hell does this happen? 2008 E60 528i

I think you are probably right that the bracket came loose for some reason. That is not something that should happen. The motor mount should give up before the bracket.

Do you have pieces that broke off the block?

>THATDONFC Just curious, was the motor mount on that side intact, or had the oil already escaped?

Well I fixed it. Ended up replacing the motor with a super clean 80k mile motor.

If anyone needs parts, I have a complete engine I'm parting out. All parts are goo except for the block. Engine ran perfectly when I removed it.
