Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
I leave trader4 on my ignore list for a reason (I haven't learned a thing from his posts) but thank you for quoting it so I could see that he told me to "grow up", as I knew he would and posted that he would before he even did it LMAO!

I love a good fight as much as the next guy, but returning to the original question;

For what it's worth - I replace about 20 +/- expansion tanks a year on Freightliner trucks. Some with as little as 15K miles. (Thin plastic, compound, high temp & high pressure are to blame??) I'm also looking at the deteriorating windshield molding on my BMW that was replaced 3>4 years ago. Just before my valve stem seals and alternator gasket seal(s) were replaced. (german plastic/rubber parts - gotta love them)

Crystalworks post is spot on.

If I had BMW or an Indy maintaining my vehicle, I would expect a full coolant system overhaul every 100k to 120k miles. Shops that don't take that approach look bad when a system failure occurs within a year or so after replacing a part in said system.

Looking under the hood regularly and DIYing allows the option of replacing part near failure (this, and knowing to STOP DRIVING/CHECK UNDERHOOD when certain lights come on).

Just curious trader4, is the 30yr old MB a daily driver? Operated in ice snow? High miles?

Sorry for all the strawmen in this post!

I bet we see a post in response to those links like "If you think BMW specific coolant is needed, your a BMW flag saluter/fanboy", or "GROW UP", or "china made coolant is just as good for BMWs".

I go away for a few months, and this is what I come back to. And I thought Twitter was bad...

EDIT: For the record, I'm 54, and I DO have more than 30 years driving experience...

Yeah, not the outposts best moment.

At least it's a few steps up from the squiggy era.

And in 90% of his 900 posts to this point he refers in some way to the "crap window regulators" which no one can forget that he has had to deal with.

Question is, if he isn't contributing positively to this forum, why do we want him to remain here? If I wanted to join a BMW bashing forum I'd join Consumer Reports, we actually like our vehicles here, and like to plan preventative maintenance schedules, and keep our vehicles and not just come on here to complain.

No, I call people buffoons when they accuse me of posting something
years ago, that I had nothing to do with, that allegedly identified me
as some youngster. That's likely part of the problem, some can't
keep people separated, and start jumbling stuff from years ago
all together. The other obvious problem here is that some of you
BMW fanatics consider it "bashing" because I once in a while I
call their crap window regulators or expansion tanks, or maybe
CV boots, crap.

And as usual, now the calls to censor and silence me start.
How typical. Here's a novel idea. All I did was call that expansion
tank "crap". And that was after another poster, with shop experience,
echoed what I had said about them failing prematurely in response
to a question that someone else posted. All you fanatics had to do
was let that go. BTW, I'm not here calling for you to be silenced.
And contrary to what you just posted, it's not all that I do, I'm
a regular poster here whether you like it or not and it's only
occasionally that I have something negative to say about parts.
Funny thing too, isn't it? I don't see you calling for censorship for
people that say Chinese parts are crap, aftermarket parts are crap,
but Woooh!, if anyone dares to say that one part that BMW uses
is crap, well then you just can't take that. Grow up.
Seems to me you have dedicated yourself to earning the reputation of being illogically negative, whining when you are challenged and saying the same thing over and over. I guess thinking repetition and bullying will ultimately make what you post true.

Rather than occasionally posting negative comments you occasionally post some constructive remarks. You can scream, stomp your feet and roll on the floor and claim otherwise but that is your history.

Several have offered advise about the purpose of the forum and how to be a constructive member. As time has passed and you have chosen to continue being caustically negative and more members have challenged you. I would expect that to continue as long as you continue your methods. No one is out to get you, you are committing suicide. Just like a negative brain won't give a happy life, caustic negativity will not give you positive feedback.

As you have said many times--your choice.

Well said. It's a shame that he won't comprehend any of that.

OK its time to let it go now. Everyone has had their chance to play nicely.

The site is for sharing experiences, resolving ownership challenges of vehicles long out of any factory warranty. The parts are what they are. The high failure ones will bring out the aftermarket, who will either engineer improved materials or they will build cheaper ones to capitalize on those owners and shops that focus on price over anything else.

Long term owners make up most of us. Newbies will come in for a quick tip and will move on. So it makes no sense to crying about parts designed some 12+ years ago. Parts fail, some more than others, some owners get vehicles that eat parts (the reasons-- see owners and vehicles for details). Gee, what a concept.
