For the record, the below response is verbatim what I received from Eonon customer support to some of my comments/issues:

"Thanks a lot for your great tips, I think it will help many guys.
About the issues you mentioned, I would like to answer one by one:

When using the phone the unit is locked up in phone mode. I could not move to any other screen or App. Not Navigation, not Home screen, nothing. Not exactly convenient if you want to look at your NAV page to tell the person on the other end you are XX miles or minutes away from destination.
-->As for your safety, the unit is designed like this way, we just want you to pay attention to the call only.

Camera interference and no camera image appears during engine running. Camera image appears when engine not running. I am using the reverse light positive and negative wires as power trigger for camera. It is thought that there is voltage regulation on the lighting circuits of the E53 and that a "cleaner" source of voltage power is needed. I am installing a relay which will simply use the reverse light voltage to close contacts that will supply a cleaner/unregulated source of power for the camera. This you should resolve with your R&D people on the exact way a camera should be connected in this SPECIFIC vehicle. This reflects badly on your camera product and head unit.
-->Thanks for your message. About this phenomenon you mentioned, it should be that your car can't provide enough power for the camera to work when the engine is running, so a relay will resolve this issue.

After re-naming the BT in my unit to X5 Eonon and connecting up the first few times, the unit boots up and now automatically calls itself "CAR KIT". I changed "CAR KIT" once to "X5 Eonon" and on a subsequent boot up it went back to "CAR KIT".....BT functions fine but where CAR KIT came from and why it keeps coming back is a big mystery.
-->About this issue, let me check with our techs first and will let you know the result soon.

Screen presses and subsequent finger smudges are quite noticeable in the screen. Possibly due to the glare in the screen and/or angle of screen. I will install the supplied glare screen and see what happens.
-->As the unit has the screen protector, please plull it out for checking too.

In daytime, max illumination is needed and today wash't even a fully sunny day in Wisconsin. Night illumination at 1/2 brightness was fine for me.
-->You can set the brightness for checking.

Also, the camera I received from you projects a reverse image on my screen. When I stand on the left side of the car at the rear, my image appears on the RIGHT side of the screen.
-->You just set it by this way:
Settings--->driving settings--->reversing X-mirror, then it will be OK, please have a try.

Many thanks for your kind understanding."

So apparently, the phone use locks everything out by design

It's nice that the unit settings will reverse the camera image.

My unit works fine when connected to phone and in call, I can go to any screen I want...the call info just reduces to a small rectangle at the top of the screen (just like my Samsung phone). Weird.

Yeah, I don't doubt you. I probably got a unit with a later firmware design that they thought they would save people from themselves

Here is about a 5minute video of my Eonon GA6166 install appearance and some of its capabilities

https://youtu.be/RAv0qZusgBQ

Not perfect or flawless but for just under $300, it's a from me.

PS: I put the anti-glare screen on after this video and it helps.

Got another tip from Eonon tech support today which involves the "Factory Settings" menu from the main Settings menu.

The "Factory Settings" requires a PW and mine is 126 so maybe other units are the same????

The techs suggest you to enter the factory setting ( password 126), then choose the "Default Power Status" and select "Memory the status of last option".

Then click Apply and Exit. The unit will prompt for a re-boot. Re-boot and then the unit will remember what you had running when you last shut down and open those up when you restart.

Also, within this menu is a "Voice" tab. In this "Voice" tab you can set the volumes of various inputs above and below the factory settings. I set my BT a little higher than their default and you can also adjust the system volume. I raised mine to 12 and upon re-boot the volume at setting "1" was a little loud so I went back to 10 in the factory settings menu.

Glad the relay details helped you out.

Yeah, I concur on the meh image quality of the CMOS Eonon camera. Just an hour ago I finished installing the CCD camera

Chetoo CCD Car Backup View Camera Waterproof High Definition Color Wide Viewing | eBay

I should have some feedback to offer on it shortly.

Edit: I just went to the garage and started up the X and this CCD camera does a great job. The lights help a lot in the darkness and the image is much clearer and no interference, shakiness or lines were observed.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
Mike since you have the Eonon here is my dilemma - is it really a superior unit not just because of price compared to Avant2 and Dynavin N6?

With my DSP the easiest unit to fit is Dynavin although technically the other units I should be able to workaround.

Hi RB,

I'm not in a position to render an opinion on comparing those other options. All I can offer is that a Dynavin or Avant2 for my budget is a non-starter, regardless of whether it could also make me a fresh espresso at the touch of a button

I have read the owner reviews on Dyanvin and they seem impressive, but I just don't have 2X the money for their head unit. Essentially for roughly the price of a Dynavin I got an Eonon HU and about all 10 speakers upgraded and I really like what I'm getting from the Eonon. But I'm easy to please.....

There's no work around needed for the Eonon. It was straight plug and play for me. There are new units from "Xtrons" that have Android 6.0, 8 core processors, and 2 gb of ram. I would consider going with that unit since it seems it will perform better than the eonon unit
