I’ll look at my stock speakers in the morning. The stickers might be off the woofers from the door, but I’ll post what I find

I also have HiFi with the non-DSP amp

I currently have the stock S676 HiFi speaker system from the factory with non DSP amp. It doesn't sound bad but it's 20 years old and I'm curious to hear and feel the difference.

Here comes my question. If I'm correct the S676 HiFi system uses 2ohm woofers, 8ohm mids and tweeters?
I've read that replacing 8ohm with 4 ohm will not cause damage, only extra heat.
I'm not sure if I can replace the 2ohm woofers with 4ohm woofers, will I get volume problems? It's difficult to find suited 2ohm woofers...

I want to keep the stock non dsp amp and I am running an Android headunit.

Can someone confirm that the HiFi system uses different Ohm speakers?
Yes you can replace the 2 ohm with 4 safely. Possible side effect might be a lower volume level than you were used to.

Where things get a little more questionable is using a 2 where a 4 normally would be. The lower ohm speakers will make the amp work harder and could potentially overheat it.

The important thing to remember is the amp sees a final load and that's depending on the way the speakers are wired as well as their resistance. You wire 2 - 8 ohm speakers in series and you have a total of 16 ohms. Wire the same 2 - 8 ohm speakers in parallel and you have 4 ohm.

My opinion is these systems were pretty lousy to begin with and 15 years later they're basically worthless so if you can get better sound by throwing whatever speakers in there go for it. Much more to gain than losing out on.

Matter of fact I have some blown speakers and a factory Nav system in the carthatshallnotbementioned that I might experiment with. But first I'll have to man up accept the unmentionable.

I trailed off half way when I started writing my reply (been happening a lot lately) and I noticed this link.

Good read

I was going to get into a little bit of that but for what you're wanting to do just plug the speakers in and enjoy.

We all know at some point you'll be getting an aftermarket amp since you're already tinkering...ya know with Xmas being around the corner and all

Just finished replacing the front 6 speakers. Pretty simple. I would rate the project a 3/10 for difficulty.

I used 6.5" Infinity Primus PR6510CS components and 2.75" Memphis PRX27s. Wasn't hugely impressed with the build quality of either, but for less than $150 for all 6 I can't complain.

The dash mid-ranges were simple to install. It'd be a 5 minute job if the speakers were a direct swap, but modifying the Memphis ones took a while. I used a dremel to grind down the edge and enlarge one mounting hole. They definitely didn't look good, but they fit.

(I also punctured one of the Memphis cones. Tool slipped when grinding. The damaged speaker seems to work fine, but I bought a 2nd set. If anyone makes the same mistake let me know, I have a spare).

The 6.5" Infinity speakers fit the doors perfectly. I just bent the tabs to a 45 degree angle, and they held the speakers in place securely when I pushed them into the OEM surrounds.

If they were any bigger, they would not fit, so I appreciate the tip in this thread about that model.

Tweeters were super easy- pretty much a direct swap. I didn't even use silicone sealant there. Infinity provides a bit of foam tape I used.

The new speakers sound MUCH better.

I did add some sound deadening mat while I was in there - brand was Noico in 80 mil, used about 6 sqft. I have no idea what difference that made in sound quality, if any, but I noticed the doors feel a bit sturdier too. Only took a few minutes so I'd recommend it. You can cut the mat up and use it to tape wires down too.

Next project will be trying to add some low-end range.... I have a JL 10" W0 I'd like to squeeze in somewhere.

Anyone know if it's better to swap the DSP mini-subs, or just add the aftermarket sub+amp off a line out?

Thanks for the info guys.

I will go for STEG SQL650C (4ohm). They are 165mm and a 25mm tweeter for all doors. These are the specs https://caraudioworld.eu/wp-content/.../techspecs.pdf
I purchased 6.5'' adapters for all doors which will fit on the stock speakermount and are made out of MDF. Making this all plug and play hopefully. https://www.ebay.de/itm/MDF-165-mm-L...72.m2749.l2649

For now I will leave the dash midrange stock as I can't get Memphis Audio PRX27 over here. The stock midranges are still working good too. Maybe upgrade them later

I will also add some sound deadening to all doors

I heard that the OEM Mini subs are not that good. But I can't judge because I never heard them in real life. I'm running a 10'' Sub and amp. Made a custom box in the left side cargo space of the trunk.

Sound deadening will add mass to the panel you're sticking it on lowering the resonant frequency aka it will make things heavier so they don't vibrate as much. The doors being made up of big flat pieces of metal are a perfect candidate for sound deadening and will make them sound more solid.

As far as the factory sound system. Brand new out of the box is was meh at best. My friend was showing off her brand new 330 convertible with the fancy premium sound system. It wasn't good at all and once you factor in the cost of this from BMW you would have been WAAAAAAAAAAY better off going aftermarket.

Trying to restore a factory BMW audio system is like an onion milkshake...doesn't make any sense

You people suck. 12 years later, I finally replace speakers.

I was able to get the DSP Subs to produce decent bass. However, the tune is pushing them pretty hard. Looks like their going to jump out of the frame! LoL...

Beeing from Denmark i had the same problem. The PRX27 is simply not available on this side of the pond.
But try search for "Excursion Street SX 275". They are readily available in Denmark, Germany, Poland, Great Britain and perhaps also in NL.

They look familiar, don't they.
