I believe that is was what would happen as the factory amp sends specific frequency ranges to specific speakers and therefore my lazy attempt would be not smart.
Whatever is being fed to my non-DSP rear door "Mid" speaker position, the tweeters like it and I like the overall sound of it with those JLs in there.

You might also alter the total impedance if you downstream the tweeters? Just wondering'? An EE or audiophile would need to chime in on that aspect.

Good Luck.

Mike
I think the thing here is NON-DSP as opposed to my DSP system. I guess it can't hurt to try wiring up my spare new tweeters and if it DOES modify my impedance for the worse, it will make the speaker volume output lower so that's kinda fine to me cause the majority of passengers I have are dogs anyhow

E53 Speaker Upgrades

Dash Midrange: Memphis Audio PRX275 (4 Ohm)

Front A-Pillar Tweeter: JL Audio C2-075-ct (4 ohm)

Front Door Woofer: JL Audio C2-600 (4 ohm)

Rear Door Woofer: Dayton Audio RS150-4 6" (4 Ohm)

Rear Door Midrange Position: JL Audio C2-075-ct (4 ohm)

I have a non-DSP, NAV 4.4i. I am looking to do this exact set up but Im having a hard time finding the JL C2-600. I do find a few alternatives tho. Has anyone tried the following component sets?
  • 6" Fosgate TS16-S
  • 6" Hertz DSK160.3
  • 6" Phoenix Gold SX6CS
Just for a final clarification so I can have this all in one place as well - the 4ohm vs 8ohm difference hasn't caused any problems?

Thanks!

I can confirm that in the year or more of my speaker upgrade there have been no issues with the 4ohm speakers that I listed in my post.

The only caveat being that I no longer use the stock factory head unit, I installed an Eonon GA6166 a few years ago.

I bought the Hertz to install in my e46 convertible prior to the apocalypse.

Here's my thoughts:

-I bought them cheap on sale, so for the price it was a no brainer ($100)

-They have good sound compared to more expensive sets I've owned before and MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the stock BMW speakers.

-I have mixed feelings about the crossovers because they come prewired with very thin guage speaker wire, but they are very small and could easily fit in the doors (which I personally don't recommend as a mounting location)

-The tweeters are definitely on the "bright" side, but for my purposes of being able to hear clearly with the top down they do a great job.

-The build quality is much better than I was expecting for the price point.

Although I'm not a huge fan of the crossover setup I would definitely buy these again for a budget build.

I enjoyed Hertz components in my E46 before as well.

I've been on this bus for about 2yrs...

I've got:
Eonon head unit.
Memphis dash mids
BSW ghost sub/amp
Bavsound front doors
Bav Auto's upgraded p&p tweeters
Factory rear doors
JL MX280/4 amp

I feel like it all sounds great EXCEPT for the Memphis mids bottoming out at only medium volume respective to what I feel the whole system should be able to handle. My questions, therefore, are these - has anyone found a better option for mids in dash than the memphis ones? Also, would a fix86 or bass-blockers help me out? OR, should I just keep dreaming about a VX400/4i???

How is everything hooked up?

E53 has 6 channels up front alone between the mids, tweets, and dash speakers. You driving everything (front and rear) with the marine 4 channel? Cool little amp BTW. And that VX400/4i... yummm.

With there being so many speakers in the X5 I opted for the Tim "the Toolman" Taylor option of 2x 500/5 JL Slash V1 amps and 1x 1000/1 Slash V1 to drive everything with it's own Xover and separate level adjustment. Obviously overkill, and I don't have any of it in the truck yet sooooo yeah. All the gear is just sitting on a shelf waiting for the kids to grow up

Edit: The fix86 looks like it would work from reading the description. But that price though. You like nice gear. I think I'd try the bass blocker option if I was sure that the amp wasn't unhappy with the load I was presenting it and causing the distortion.

Thanks CW. Yes, I am driving front and rears with mx280/4. I have the factory amp bypassed because it died on me. I can get a lightly used Fix86 for around $200 OR my interest was peaked when researching alternatives to Eonon and found the Avin Avant4. I'm curious to know if that would be plug'n'play to replace the Eonon unit I have. It is a bit steep at like $700 loaded up with the right features. I know that a lot of people have been relatively happy with their Eonon head units but I could not find anything through search about the Eonon GA9449 which looks to be MUCH faster than mine AND adds CarPlay. It is advertised for E39 only 8/10 times and E39&E53 2/10 times. Very scientific sampling - I KNOW. Anyway, that newer Eonon unit would not solve my DSP problem, but for $218 it IS tempting compared to the Avin unit. This all feels like a random thought dump, but I was hoping someone might chime in who has at least looked closely at the GA9449 as a referenece and this thread could help find them
