Hi,

There was a delay in production of the new Android 8.0 BMW E46, E38, E39, and E53 units. We will not be able to ship out the new model until February 22nd. Maybe sooner but that is the new target date. The Avant3 has been discontinued. There will be a new model number and a new lower starting price as well. The new model will have a new low starting price of $449.99. Because of this, we will be refunding all customers that have ordered the Avant3 so they can place a new order for the new model when we update our website next week.
Wonder if the Avant 4 will ever actually be available. Glad I skipped Avin this time. Sorry for your headaches. You going to wait until that February date or just cancel and order something else?

Now that the aero kit work is done. I just installed my backup cam yesterday and will be working on getting the rest of the head unit in this weekend hopefully (probably not likely ). I already de-cluttered the wiring harness of the unnecessary stuff. Interestingly enough it appears they have an extra harness in there as a provision for retaining the OEM radio module in the electronics OE location. I cut it out as I won't be retaining DSP... but it was interesting to see. Will post pics in my build thread. Oh also tested the unit in situ using their harness and canbus box. Steering wheel controls worked well and the unit was all happy.

Oh, I did discover that this unit does not appear to have a provision for an external microphone? That is a little worrisome but I guess no sense in worrying about that at the moment. It has a label on the back of the case but the "socket" is an empty hole and the unit did not come with an external mic so I am guessing it's not available on this unit.

And the plot thickens lol

Assuming Avin is built on China, they are soon and most factories will close for a month to month and half for Chinese New Year and if it's not out of the ports before then nothing can be done.

I'm manufacturing and an this probably applies to all manufacturing out of China.

Well they cancelled my order and refunded my money. Just so annoyed with this Chinese circle jerk. Not sure what I do next...

Totally understandable. I certainly would be. They had issues upon the initial release of the Avant 2 as well... I don't see how that company is still around with all the problems. Maybe they do a ton of business on the universal units, a buddy of mine had one in his Vette and it was solid.

Well, if you can wait til hell freezes over I'll give you a full review of the one I bought.

Almost relieved to tell you the truth. I just started getting a bad feeling with all the unanswered emails and cloudy answers to the valid questions I had. I want something that will not make my OCD flare up, I have plenty of that already.

Interesting, I didn't get an email back about this yet...
Hopefully they'll update their website and other buyers soon. I really hope the new units are improved and ship on Feb 22 (my birthday )

I finally pulled the trigger, looked at different styles over and over and thought about it over and over and decided on this unit:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Eris...25b03c00PxPbuz

The reasons I chose this unit:

1. They layout looks the closest to the OEM MK4 unit. As far as button layout, the font and even the volume knob looks exactly the same.

2. I really like physical buttons, for some reason I tend to use the buttons on the HU more than the steering wheel controls, especially the volume knob.

3. This goes back to the button/layout and the buttons I use the most are the Presets & Volume and since I got used to the OEM MK4, these will feel more natural as it's placed the exactly the same.

4. Again with the buttons, I don't like having a button that I don't use or can't use. MK4 has some and AVANT-3 is the worst offender of them all LOL

My main use for this is to install a backup camera and i-Bus so I can get my AE's running as DRLs finally!

What do you guys think about this Android HU?

The audio is crap.. bass is almost non-existent.. and forget about Bluetooth calling.. otherwise.. the screen is nice .. however I think this exact mode you got is android 8.1 .. it’s android 4.4 with 8.1 overlay.. u need to look for the same with px6 processor for 8.1 to work..

I’m sharing the link for the scores it has.. as you not like the look of it.. although being a larger screen
