Hey Guys...got out to the parking garage this aft and GUESS WHAT....Cleaner's Boot had a bigass hole underneath it!!!!
I can't wait a) to find out if it's covered on my CPO warranty and b) to get it fixed and see if the noise goes away! Thanks Cleaner! |

Yep, on the underside is where mine ripped, could not see it unless you were looking for it.
It will be covered, but the part is only 15 bucks and labor is probably about .5 of an hour. I just did mine myself |

Okay Cleaner, YOU ARE MY HERO.
That effing noise has been bugging me for SOOO long. This morning, with a cold engine (obviously) I took some DUCT TAPE and wrapped it pell mell around the hole. Started the engine. NO WHISTLE, NO STALLING ON STARTUP. I told my wife (her car) and she said, "My poor engine, suffering all this time!!" And I agree with her. I can't wait to get to the 'ship Monday morning and inform them of this revelation, maybe it'll help out other X5 owners in Montreal. I'm incredulous that such an easy fix isn't seared into the technicians' brains and checklists! |

Plus, My SES light up again, this time is the 4th time in less than a year, check with dealer, first 2 is wire harness, fixed, 3rd is intake sensor, fixed, now the 4th time, what is gonna be? help me! |

I am not very happy to join this "club" at all!!
I have just got my X5 3,0 Turbo Diesel (great car!), an I am getting crazy over the very high frequent sound. It comes when I accelerate smoothly and when the cruise-control is adjusting the speed, which happens all the time. When accelerating faster I don´t hear the sound. At the dealers they can hear the soud, but the say it´s normal. NORMAL?? In Denmark an X5 costs DKK 1.200.000 ($ 210.000). You can get a house or a flat for the same amount - and the dealer says it´s normal! This thread however has given we a few ideas to be tried. Maybe I should give the car to my wife as she is not able to hear the sound - the I can take over her Toyota Rav4

OK, mine does this too. But the important question is:
Is this airboot *before* or *after* the airfilter? If it's before...I could care less. If it's after, we're talking dirty unfiltered air/foreign debris getting inside the engine!
