Yes I am going to do it the same way, taking the entire half shaft assembly out of the diff. I did leave the wishbone attached to the assembly. I also followed the instructions and torqued these bolts down with vehicle weight on them. Quote:

I started work on my passenger side outer CV boot last night. About halfway through, must say its much easier the second time around. I am finding myself going back to my own thread here and there tho
![]() I wanna bang this out and then get the car over to the indy dealer for them to do an alignment and check my steering wheel shudder.

So...both of my outer boots are torn, dealer wants $1100.00!!! The parts are like 60 bucks! Anyway, there is no way I am doing this myself, so what can I expect to pay an independent mechanic? Also, what are the dangers of driving with the torn boots until I find someone?

Nevermind, I got the information I needed from a local Mechanic. For anyone else in the same situation, he quoted me $240.00 to do both front outer boots and I supply the parts. This is what I bought, hopefully they are okay. Wayyy better the the $1100.00 the stealership wanted.
http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...V%20Boot%20Kit The only part that worries me is he can't do the repair until next friday and stated I need to stop driving it due the possibility of damaging the CV joint. I can't go a week without a car...guess I'll figure something out.

Thats a deal, much better than doing it urself then. Let us know if that figure changes once he gets in there and sees what the job entails. My indy wanted 550.00 per side. Just as much as the dealer. So I spent 32.00 for the boot kit and did it myself...it's a pita tho.

You don't have to stop driving it, I would just minimize your driving and dont blow through any puddles, avoid driving in rain, etc... Personally I would rather put it down until it can be resolved, or you can read in this thread there is a temporary solution I have come up. I used it with good success, kept it clean as a whistle until i had time the other day to pull the axle and replace the boot. $240 for laboer is a very reasonable price. 2 Kits will run you $70 from crevier, your mech prob charge around the same.

I just finished replacing the boots of the left front axle... not too bad of a job, really. Took about 3.5 hours. Thanks to all the input in this thread and the DIY thread!
