If you just bought a CPO and they put new brakes on it, you'll probably not get the brake job even!

People really need to understand how little maintenance BMW actually covers, and how poorly they maintain these cars. If you are planning on keeping this car for any period of time, do not rely on BMWs plan.
Actually for the dealer cost, I was going by the PDF document I got from this thread, MPU_3_10_2010.pdf, where it stated $1595 for the dealer cost on a 3 series. Anyway, I'm happy with the price I got, I got quoted different prices before on MPU ranging from $2495 to 1895, this is the lowest I could get.

The brakes on my CPO actually wasn't new, I got a key reader printout, it states that it has about $10k miles left on both front and back. So I figured that this $1745 could at least cover my brakes. BTW, are the brakes supposed to be brand new on CPO?

Yeah, that pdf is believed to be a deliberate leak to the market.

The imporant number is when were the brakes LAST REPLACED, not how long the FOS bmw system is saying!!! All that crap is guess work.

Brakes are REQUIRED to be 50% or greater. Plus they are REQUIRED to give you the CPO checklist when they sold you the car... did they? You really should have this. You can also get the dealer to printing out the service history that BMW has on your vin. It will list dealer codes and opcodes (thise will tell you what work was done.)

1745 will 'at least' cover the brakes. It will likely cover a lot more. My position is that simple judicious shopping and finding a very good BMW indy will give you all the services BMW will cover for less than $1500. The additional benefit is that you will wean yourself of the "BMW dealer", which is always the MOST expensive place to have work done, and often (sadly) sub-standard for some work. You can do interstitial oil changes and one or two ATF changes (before 100,000 miles) at an indy for 50% of the raping a dealer will charge! Both of these are not covered by the MPU

Fidelity Warranty Services

In case anyone is contemplating buying an extended warranty (really insurance policy) from this company. Apparently it is one of the better/best ones to get. Here is the website with all the relevant information and for reference I have attached the complete (blank) contract.

X5 Meister,

Thank you so much for the info, especially the PDF, that you posted. I had to act quickly because my 4 year Maintenance and Warranty expires next month.

I did try my local dealer but they just quoted me full MSRP for the "BMW Maintenance Program" (6 yr/100k miles) which was $2,295 plus tax. I did not discuss Warranty plans with them as I did not know about the "BMW Extended Vehicle Protection" program at the time.

I called BMW of Macon but Ryan Lee is no longer there so I spoke to Bill. He discounted the "BMW Maintenance Program" to $2,095 which I accepted (and there is no tax).

We also discussed the Powertrain Plus, Gold and Platinum versions of the 5yr/100k, 6yr/100k, 7yr/70k, 7yr/100k warranties. I quickly made up my mind to get the Platinum 7yr/70k which he said had MSRP of $4,680.

So I didn't shop around because I ran out of time but I got these two plans for $6,400 -- for which my dealer would have wanted $7,418 (including tax).

I got a quote from Auto Pom for the Platinum policy 5 yr/85k miles for about $4k. They also gave me a quote for their Gold and Silver policy too which was significantly cheaper....about $2k or so.

Is the $4k quote for the Platinum a fair price? Should I go with the Platinum, Gold, or Silver policy?

Might want to double check on that. I thought he was no longer there as of late 2009. After him, Ryan Lee was handling it. I don't know if he's there either. The current finance manger is Bill Fortenberry. I'm sure he can help you out.
