That airplane noise is the worst!!!! I took it to BMW 6 times for that, they finally replaced the whole damn thing under warrantee... is it a wining kind of droning noise??

Manual tranny must be a blast BTW!

Wanted to bump this thread and see how everyone has been doing?

I'm at 111,855 miles on a 2002 3.0i. So far just routine type stuff replaced (besides aux fan under warranty) but now need a new steering rack at some point. Wheel bearings are shot too, but so far so good. Fingers crossed!

How's everyone elses X?

99,200 miles on my '02 3.0. So far, I had the oil seperator freeze up and blow the valve cover gasket very messy-- at 82,000 miles.

I changed the trans fluid to m1 at 96,000 miles... made a big difference in the shifting.

I have some oil consumption 1 qt in 2,000 miles. Probably some blow by, I'm afraid to change the weight of the oil on this engine since BMW is so strict about oil weights and brands. I'm using M1 0w-40 at 7500 oci.

The car is awesome, I hope to keep it to 200,000 miles or 6 more years.

112k on '00 4.4i, original tranny, original tranny fluid...

@100k, replaced valley pan gasket, spark plugs... runs smooth like a champ... also have replaced oxy sensor, cam sensor, and other miscellaneaous items (e.g., 2 window regulators)...

Our X5 just broke 66k on our 2003 3.0i last week. Our last big repair was back in January when we replaced the oil separator and the front transmission seal and rear main seal at 57k miles. This and a fan clutch assembly at 52k miles were the big repairs and everything else was a wear item that would need to get replaced over time. Our X5 has been trouble free for its whole life and I hope we get many more trouble free miles.
