oh, almost forgot - i just traced further the wiring for the US spec X5 -

LCM module (A3), connector X38, pin 15 - left rear fog light - comes to pin 12 on X609
LCM module (A3), connector X12, pin 1 - right rear fog light - comes to pin 10 on X609.

X609 is the trailer harness that is tucked away in the trunk - so, if you are able to pull those two signals from the pinout, you should be fine. On non-US spec cars the wires go directly from the LCM to the light bulb sockets in the rear bottom door

So if I'm reading this right, I should be able to do this:

Pin from back of euro headlight switch, 2 separate wires/pins to LCM, 1 to connector X38, pin 15, 1 to connector X12, pin 1.

Wire tap from each LCM pin, run down to back of the car, run into tail light plug and ground each light in the tailgate.

Does that sound right? If so thats almost too easy.

I've got a seller that ships for 65 euro a switch as per ebay.de, I'll ask him about VAT

i am at work, can not read SVG files, but a single wire from the light switch (S8) should go to pin 45 on the larger connector of the LCM (X10117). That wire tells LCM to activate the rear fog lights - I just don't remember where on the switch it goes to.
******
LCM module (A3), connector X38, pin 15 - left rear fog light - comes to pin 12 on X609
LCM module (A3), connector X12, pin 1 - right rear fog light - comes to pin 10 on X609.
*******
The left rear fog light is already wired from the LCM to the back of the car and is terminated at the connector X609, pin 12. the right rear fog llight is wired to the back of the car as well, and is terminated at the same connector, pin 10.

So, you do not have to run wires from the front of the car to the back, they are already there. You will have to run a single wire from the light switch to the LCM

so you are telling me that I have connector X609 for the trailer hitch pre-installed in the trunk, and as long as I plug a wire into each pin of the X609 connector, and run to each rear fog light (and ground each bulb), that I can do this without buying the Trailer harness?

Sorry to ask so many questions but you seem to be the guy with the resources and knowledge

i am looking at the wiring diagrams and base my info on them - yes, once you connect the light switch to the LCM, you should be able to pick up the rear fog power at X609. if you have multimeter, you can test those pins, once you connect the light switch to the LCM and turn on the rear fogs...

do you have adaptive headlights?

in theory, you should be able to test the pins in the trunk if you ground pin 45 on the bigger connector at the LCM (54-pin connector X10117), which should energize the pins in the back. This is just a theory, I have not tested it but might be worth trying - it will not fry anything in the LCM, as the LCM is designed to monitor the light switch for grounded wires to determine which button is pushed or selected.

Slick I just had this convo with the CEO on the way to work this morning, she takes the mods and maintenance in one boat so she thinks I "always have a project to do", when in reality getting my exhaust tips welded was the first "mod" I did since I got my 20s in August.

Little does she know I have calipers to paint, and spark plugs waiting to go in on the shelf of the garage, and a rear fog project is much more important
