I'm not sure about that. It was a VERY close call. Was worried it would run into the taper of the splines on the shaft before having enough pull movement to pop out the circlip. But it had juuuuuuust enough. I might actually grind out the center a bit. Even 2mm larger would be much more comfortable.

A lot of times I have nothing to add to a discussion, but want you guys to know I appreciate that you are active on this board. Wish we had that like more modern boards. I wouldn't be able to keep this damn car on the road if it wasn't for this board.
Agreed. And cheers to that.

@crystalworks-- aaahh, OK I guess still the same, the splines don't fit into the hole ;( There is some postings about about this, pretty crazy that they don't make the hole a bit bigger but probably very few vehicles have splines this big. Yes, I can see some grinding in your future!

The contractor is taking up repair costs after I presented my driveway ring camera capture of the incident. All's good now.

Yes, sir, under $300 for everything including the couple of six-packs of my favorite colds ones to help me focus while tuning the system . The project forced me to learn about audio system installs and tuning. I never tackle a project without first learning details of the system and how do it it right the first time. Great learnings and I enjoyed it.

Alcantara headliner

Began tear down.....finally. Been itchin to do this for a couple years. There wasn't any sagging or issues I just love this stuff. I'm doing the same fabric/color, 9002 Anthracite, that's in the E39 M5. I was a little hesitant to do it because I wanted to keep it bone stock in case I ever sell it one day. I think a collector/purist, might want it stock. Tear down so far was fairly easy but I haven't tackled the pano roof shades yet.

This is on my list too -- got a third car (fixer upper) and soon the X will go under the knife. Mostly for a sunroof repair in my case though.
