Jeez, I should have looked in the pan and been like, hmmmm... no oil.... and then took my time. Instead I'm just ripping through it and flying. Awesome... Yeah thats true! Yeah, I mean I put the oil in the 4.4 and it does a nice job and at $21/gallon, its cheap. Advance auto has a deal going on. 5 qts of Havoline 5-30 with filter for $19.99.... but then I saw some reviews on the oil. Something about the chemical makeup changing, I just said screw it. lol

Now diss but I don't think the insulated hoses is worth the coin. I recall pricing them out when I did mine out of prev. maint, and it was I think about $200 more.
There is another kit. I'm too lazy to post the part #, but that kit if I recall was a heated wrapped hose - powered via 12V

Hey man, is that kit for a V8 though? The I6 and V8 kits are very different and I have not seen a heated I6 kit to date

Edit just checked SIB 11 08 03, the M54 replacement according to BMW is the insulated unit and insulated hoses, AND the updated single wall dipstick tube, which many here neglect to replace.

I purchased the tube, unit and all hoses for about $320, the rest was spent on misc parts for other repairs while I'm in there.

If you were going that route, I would just dump a heater pad controlled via a switch on your own... It may mitigate the issue, but I think a long drive is much easier ascertainable..

No.

I will be doing some dyno tuning soon. If that goes well I will do the final stuff at a local dragstrip. I usually tape dyno runs. I may tape the 1/4 mile runs.

You'd have to install a heated wrap on each of the 4 hoses and the valve itself lol

If BMW authorized the use of the heated wrap for the M54 don't you think there would be an SIB for it?
