Yeah in that locale, your Mm (Megameter) distance could be considered the effective kmi (kilo mile) distance.

Miles. Engine is starting to show it age. I have lowered compression in cylinder 2. Still within limits, but I've started looking for another X5 with lower mileage. They're out there, but not necessarily in great shape. Looked at one with 76,000 miles on it and my body and interior were in better shape. I'll be going to look at one about 2 hours away next weekend. From the photos it looks good. Only has 127,000 miles.

I'm also going to borescope that cylinder and see if it looks like its valve or rings. If rings, I'll try a ring soak and see if I can get the compression back up close to the rest. I hate to get rid of it. I've had it so long and it's been a great car, still is.

Having just done two engine swaps, i suggest looking into rebuilding or finding a rebuilt or young m54. My x5 is the next gen 2011 and it was 1/3 the price to replace the motor with 80,000 mile newer one than replace the car.

The e53/m54 would easily be half the effort of e70 n55 swap.

That thought has crossed my mind. The problem is this is my daily and to take it out of use would mean getting a rental. I'd also probably need to do it on nights and weekends. Not sure how much time spread out like that it would take. How long did it take you to do your n55?

20 hours with two people spread over three weeks. We did my wife's in about 15 hours maybe less. Mine i also changed every coolant and power steering hose.

The non turbo car we could change without removing the grill/bumper that would save two hours and the far less complex engine i think 8/10 hours with two people could be done in a solid weekend of two days.

Hit me up with pm i travel.

I may take you up on that. Especially if it could be done in a weekend!

My 2004 6 speed is currently at 230k miles. Just installed new plugs, and 2 cylinders had slightly oily appearance. Oil consumption is at 1/2 qt over 3500 miles. Rust-free car that is a solid 8.5/10 inside and out.

I don't have any immediate concerns but if anything were to change radically I would probably find a good M54 for it. There is really nothing else out there that appeals to me.
