that is the unit I got from eBay to replace the iLive unit. This one has a slide switch, and I went a step further - I popped the case open and snipped the wires for the internal battery off and hardwired it. Now, everytime I start the engine, the BT unit goes into "ON" state, and the phone instantly connects to it (with iLive model, the unit stayed powered on with internal battery until the juice would run out and then I had hard time reconnecting to it). so far works fine... |

Wow, I need to check my comp for chatter, 3 posts back to back...
Unless your glove box door is lead or steel, you shouldn't worry about connectivity. Mine is "permanently" buried in center console. What you should worry about, is alternator whine - there is no whine when BT runs off internal battery, but when you connect it to cigarette lighter power supply, or, in my case, hardwired to battery, there's alt whine. I have tried to eliminate it with a home made filter, but I need to recalculate the winds for inductor and the value for capacitor. Running BT strictly off battery is possible but not desirable. The whine is induced on the power lines, not on audio lines. A better quality power supply might rectify the issue. I will try to attach a picture of the filter I made... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk

You can delete your own triple posts you know.
![]() That is a very interesting solution to hardwiring the bluetooth adapter. I can't do that on mine as I'll be using it in multiple cars. Good to hear that it has lasted so far also.

Just as I thought. This is the reason why I have ended my search for another BT adaptor. At this point it's not worth the trouble....

Hey Term,
I like your homemade filter. Does it reduced the alternator whine? I finally got my tablet installed and I'm getting the alternator whine but haven't have time to look into it. Do you remember how many round you wrapped it?

WOW just on ebay and sooooooo many BT dongles out there from $10-$25.
![]() thanks for the pics Term...hows the filters coming along? which would you fellas recommend to get? I will most likely leave the device in the glove comp, and luckily its not steel so im ok there...hahaha anyways, i think having to recharge the device might be a pain so i might have a buddy of mine hardwire it to cigg lighter or something like that.

well, i have an error in my calculations of the frequency of the alternator whine - i estimated (did not have equipment to measure) the whine to be around 2-3 kHz, but i think it is much higher. The filter attenuates some of the whine on the lower end, when engine is just idling around 600-700 RPMs, but once the engine goes into road speeds, the whine is back... I am going to see if i can get the equipment at work to measure the spectrum of the whine, and then i will recalculate the filter - on the pictures i am missing 4700 mF capacitor, that is soldered into the filter... and I don't remember the number of winds - it is a 12 gauge speaker wire, about 20 feet long wrapped on the metal rod...

Both those dongles look fine. The second one is what Terminator and I have. I bought mine from spiderfoot on eBay though, and they have an online store which sells them cheaper. Shipping is usually from China so it will take some time though.
