I am with you on this. Trans off, the rear main seal would be a sure thing for me as well.

I've changed a few rear mains on the M62, definitely replace it while it is super easy to access. Part#11141736521 is likely what is leaking oil. It comes in the rear main kit.

Also, I can see the rear coolant cover is seeping a little. I've done that job a few times as well. Part# 11141729836 is for the coolant leak. I would replace these bolts also, they are susceptible to galvanic corrosion.

Hey Stunt, do you think the tranny and torque converter rebuild will cure the dreaded 2-1 downshift lurch/jerk that we all hate?

You know, you just reminded me of that lurch jerk 2-1. Mine has gone away completely after the fluid change and new solenoids.

Hmmm, that is a novel way to get an oil change done......

Oh and I did my own tranny couple of years ago. Quite doable. Your skills and tools seem to be well up to the. task

Rather than tear more stuff apart and make more of a mess, I decided to clean up a little this afternoon after work.

A quick broom and mopping of the floor helped a lot.

Also consolidated and organized all the front end and engine accesories

And I got the L51 packaged up and ready to ship out tomorrow for rebuilding.

I sure hope so. Mine started doing this the last 500 or so miles I drove it.
