Try searching for N62 belt replacement, I've seen and referenced a video from a 7 series owner. Very easy and more so if you take out the Aux fan to get more space. Basically just need a long breaker bar into the tensioner with the right socket size and remove/install the belt.

What TQ2K is correct. I think it is a torx bit 50 or 60. Use that to relieve the tension. I think you can lock it down so it wont pinch your fingers. I did not and all went fine. I did mine with a water pump replacement. You can search for that too. I think the instructions I think it was from an E39.

I used a T60 and a long ratchet for leverage. Plan on changing the main accessory belt too. You have to take it off to get tho the AC belt. The socket fits in a recess on the tensioner so you can relive the belt tension. I have seen that tool before but I don't know what it is for. I did not need it to change both the accessory belt and the ac belt.

Thank you TQ2K/KRINGER2.
I tried searching using your suggestions, but haven't found anything yet. Did you take the fan off (some threads mention that there are two fans, but in my case, it is only one)? Taking it off seems very intimidating I have done this on our 330i, but in this case it is behind the Drive Belt and not much room underneath the X5 to get to it.Any pictures, videos, DIY, etc. you can point me to? Thanks, |

google this
545i N62 Water Pump/Pulley Replacement DIY Not all of the instructions are there and it is a bit different. Once you remove the air scoop and top radiator support the fan can me unplugged and carefully removed. be VERY careful you can easily snap one of the plastic nipples on the upper radiator hose - I broke mine off on re-assembly. Once that is out of the way the job is easy. I say again be VERY careful around those plastic pipe nipples they get brittle with age.
