My hope is that the tech actually primed everything with the factory tools, and it would be primed all the way to the nozzles when he attempted to fire it.

We will know today about whether the injectors were at fault for this, or the tech.

It appears that this will be a very brief ownership experience with the X5, as we will be selling it when she's complete. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Tough ethical question....

trade it in? Sell to someone and only dont explain risks? caveat emptor as they say?

Post the VIN if you do trade it.

I always sell it myself, and disclose the history of the vehicle. Plus, all work will have been done by dealership techs, so it's all clearly posted on carfax type entities reports.

Never trade a vehicle in, that's just like buying new. Handing money to the dealer that you could be putting in your own pocket. It takes very little effort to make thousands more than trade-in values.

Also, the vehicle will be repaired and tested to a higher standard than purchased. Fresh fuel pump, fresh injectors, fuel rail will most likely be replaced, plus fuel system flush and servicing, much better than when I bought it.

The injectors bench tested fine, minus one injector. Bosch has an in house remanufacturing program and sells new-spec reman injectors for 70% of the retail new injector price. Picked one injector up, had all of the rest cleaned and set up with fresh copper, cleaned the fuel rail and all hard lines with combination brake cleaner, carb cleaner, and a final rinse with diesel.

Then, as luck would have it, when I brought the injectors back to BMW to be installed, our tech quit. So it fell out off the schedule until the shop foreman can repair it. Hoping Tuesday to hear something. Have high hopes, but this plan relies on the fuel filter to deal with sediment for a month or two. Will be doing a couple filter swaps quickly and cutting the filter to inspect the results.

I'll answer any questions people have.

How do you purchase injectors with that program? Thank and good luck to you.

I'm workin with a local diesel specialty shop that's also the regional Bosch dealer. We are a mid major type city in Spokane, so large geographic area hubs everything here. Tons and tons of diesel rigs in our area, blue collar town, so plenty of support for light and heavy trucking.

Probably could have had the pump rebuilt there too, but didn't know that when the dealer was doing what they do. They still aren't happy with our plan, and it's been 7 weeks since she blew up, so very long term. Only a week of that is my fault, with injector shipping time.

This is valuable information for the community, so thank you for bird dogging all this- and posting.

It is gratifying to hear that there may be less "BMW Pixie Dust" than we are always led to believe....

(Hopefully I will never need to, but if I do expect a few PMs for names and numbers of contacts and shops up in your neck of the woods that might be a lead to the same level of skills in the Sacto/Norcal region.)

Finally, being a BMW master tech is a pretty decent job- makes you ask the question: is there something about the shop that your dealer runs to lose that talent? As with every business in this country, there are good employers and bad.... a friend is a master tech and some of the stories he tells...

Good Luck!
