New Arnott airsprings installed today... worked 4 hours

Hey guys,

So after putting aside the dreaded tail sag on my 3rd row 2011 X5 for a while, I finally got myself 2 Arnott A2642s and had them replaced. Vehicle was ready at 2:30 picked it up at 4... it was fine in the lot. Stopped for for a cigar, continued driving home around 6pm. Everything was okidoki till I backed into my garage and turned the engine off. The compressor kicked in but this time with a hissing sound at the rear right tire. Of course the vehicle slowly lowered and compressor stopped after a minute or so.

What you guys think? Air-line came loose? Faulty airspring? Called the shop right away but they were closed. Can it be driven 26 miles back to the shop or tow? I don't believe I was this upset over a vehicle repair...

Excuse my rant, feels good to talk about it.

Lev

Sounds like an installation issue.... did they follow the procedure correctly during install? Vehicle’s weight needs to be supported with fully depressurized system after installing new bags and connection instruction from arnotts (do not unscrew new fasteners from new bag to reuse old connectors) must be followed to prevent leaky hose lines.

I have driven on fully deflated bags to get home to my scan tool but I wouldn’t recommend it for longevity of new bags and compressor if you are able to troubleshoot it your self at home.

Edit: I’d drive it back but don’t tell the shop it happened last night - tell them it happened on the way there (to prevent any “you shouldnt have driven it” claims for warranty)

Bad seal on a connection. Should be an easy fix. If the compressor can keep up with the leak you'll be able to tell when it stops with engine running

Called them as soon as I got home, so they know some went wrong. I am trying to arrange for a tow. Thanks.

Compressor runs for about a minute after engine is shut off. The leak is too big for the compressor to inflate at all. Thanks, will update you guys.

That sounds like a hose popped off at a quick connect.i would take a look it's visible at the top just by lifting the trunk floor. (of course did I read you have 3rd row seat that complicates things im sure)

IIRC, in the E70 the airlines for the rear airbags run under the car only. I took some of the covers off (I have a 3-row as well) to replace the rear shocks and I don't think the airlines are visible inside at all. Sounds pretty much like the air connection at the bag popped.

Towtruck on its way, lets hope gets easier from here. Not sure what they screwed up or did they follow instructions but we shall see. Should have spent the extra $300 and gotten OEM springs installed at local BMW. At least it would have been warrantied unlike these guys who do not on customer supplied parts.

Arnott make good airbags so I’d be surprised if it is a manufacturer’s fault. Probably just a quick connect as mentioned above....but anything is possible!!

Forgot to update, right side has a tear in it. Will send it back for a refund... my only option is buy it from the shop and pay for install again. At least one of the 2 will be warrantied by the shop for 2 years. I am having a very bad day, the Amazon 3rd party company I bought it from don't even have a number on file. SMH...
