Just checked the cargo tracking and my X5 is booked on the TAPIOLA which is scheduled to arrive in Savannah GA on Australia Day and depart on the 27 Jan 08

Unfortunately the ship is going to Brisbane before Perth and supposedly wont get to Fremantle port until the 28 Feb 08.

Add two weeks to pass customs and I should expect delivery in mid March...hopefully.

test drove the 3.0SD today. It's ok in the power department, was expecting more given the hype but then it was new. There is no turbo whistle like in the E53 which to me is disappointing as I think its a great sound espcially in an enclosed environment such as undercover carparks and tunnels.

Mine should be being loaded on the ship this Sunday, but now that i've driven it i'm not so excited about it anymore.

no but I know its there and how that sounds on the outside.

so you got a decent chance to hear it properly under acceleration from outside? I forgot to do that when I tested one the other weekend

I drove it with the windows down because it was something i needed to know but I heard nothing.

Normally i would hear it when at the lights and accelerating next to other cars (sound bouncing off) but in the 3.0SD there was nothing even at hard acceleration.

The only thing i can hear inside the E53 which relates to the turbo is the 'hoot' sound that sometimes happens when the pressure builds up too much. Pedestrians around the area when that happens look in surprise as they probably expected the sound to be coming from one of them hotted up jap cars not a 4WD.

Inside the E70 I found the engine note sounded great but I want my whistle...

The only thing I am looking forward to on the car now is seeing the HUD in action. The demo that I drove had Active Steering which caught me by surprise not only when parking but accelerating from corners because its so light and I tended to turn in too much. I didn't tick this option but I could see it being useful if you did alot of towing and hence maneovuring trailers etc

I got confirmation of a Feb build April delivery on my SD , which has been on order since Oct!

Getting it in Melbourne, even though I'm based in Perth.
