Shame on Carmax
I recently joined the X5 world because I was waiting for the delivery of my 07 X5 loaded with lots of goodies. After paying $975 for the transfer from CA to Connecticut the car was sold to somebody else by mistake (according to CarMax). After waiting for my transfer to arrive to Connecticut, last week, a message was left at work informing that the transfer car had arrived (they did not bother calling my cell phone). As soon as I received the message the next day, I called to step up and appointment to pick up my baby. They told me that the salesperson will get back to me ASAP. I waited all afternoon, but nobody got back to me. I called about five times that same day but they would always tell me that the salesperson would get back to me. Finally, I threatened to talk to a manager if the salesperson did not call me in the next 30 minutes. Subsequently, the salesperson called me to inform me that car was sold. I said what??? he said yes I am sorry and here is his explanation of the situation by email: “As I stated to you on the phone we are terribly sorry that the BMW X5 you transferred from California was inadvertently sold. By some error the order was deleted and the vehicle went back into inventory and was subsequently transferred to another location. I have located similar cars which we could consider if you like. At the very least your transfer fee will be refunded to you. I hope you will consider working with me to search for another vehicle” In the meantime, I already sold my vehicle and I am hustling with New Jersey transit buses. I don’t want to rush and buy the first available vehicle because this is a big investment considering my financial capacities. The price for the car was 42,000K with Tech, Premium, and Sport option it had 9K miles. This experience was devastating for me and for you out there BE WARY ABOUT BUYING CARS FROM CARMAX. My experience was not good. I don't know what to do now.... |

I had the same thing happen to me, except mine was with a Ford dealership in Austin. They were transferring a Contour from San Antonio. The car arrived on Friday, the salesman called me and I told him it would have to wait until Monday since I was already leaving town. I get back on Monday and the salesman called and said an error occurred in the computer and someone sold my car. I said it was bs, they got a higher price than what I was willing to pay. They offered to locate another car, etc, but was only willing to come off another $500 for the error. I yelled at the sales manager and anyone else I could, but it did no good. So I left to another dealership and they had the car I was looking for. I called the loser dealership up and told them my girlfriend was coming to pick-up my deposit check and they better have it ready when she gets there.

Man that sucks bigtime.
I had CarMax trasnfer my X too when we bought it a few years back. It was an in-state transfer (free) and everything went smoothly. The X actually arrived earlier then promised. Sorry for your bad luck though. Good luck with the search. |

Quote:
chances are someone up the deal and stole it under you. If this happens all that time, I'd tell them you are working with the state attorney general and will look into how many of times this has occured to people and will bring on a class action suit. Maybe its worthwhile to pursue. Ask the attorney general's office on how do they get the message out to search for victim fo similar situation.

Sorry to hear; that would be more than enough to piss anyone off! I would get the name of the manager and write to him directly. Tell him about your experience and how it's put you out without a vehicle due to THEIR mistake. Ask them why you would deal with them again and what THEY are willing to do about it to keep their reputation. Ask them to find you another vehicle with the same specs and see what they can do to cover the transfer fees and possibly re-imburse you for some of the trouble you had to go through.
Tell them you are willing to work with them before going to a lawyer, Business bureau or writing about your experience in the local paper! Of course you don't have to buy from them again and you should certainly keep searching but at least put some pressure on them to see what they come back with...Who knows maybe you'll get a better deal! Good Luck!
