Took my 4.8 this morning for software update since I have experienced the same hesitation at low speed. Initial diagnoses by the dealer yielded nothing. They call and said that they were not able to replicate and there is nothing they can do. They asked me about the code (which I gave them earlier). An hour later, I get another call confirming that my car due for software update and they are working on it.
Two things: 1) Thanks to the original poster... very helpful post!! 2) How come they couldn't identify the software updates on their own, when later they were able once I gave them the code posted on this forum?? Last edited by JGQ; 07-04-2009 at 09:29 AM. |

Wow just wanted to say thanks to the original poster for this update everyone should chip in and get this guy a bottle of Don Julio. It took them almost the entire day to install the new software but it was well worth the wait. My transmission was so bad in my 2008 4.8i that within the first 100 miles after I bought my X5 from the dealership I brought it back thinking it was defective. They said it was because the vehicle is new will adapt and all that bs and up until today my transmission was still jerky with almost 10,000 miles on it. This software makes the transmission silky smooth and almost seems like it gives you extra power when accelerating. I bitched and complained so much about the transmission that BMWNA was going to buy back my X5 since this was my only complaint. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the transmission stays this way after the software update but anyone with this issue bring your X5 in and get this done today don't wait any longer.

Thanks for the post Zoich!
The software update is terrific! Lately, I've been regretting getting a 4.8 and not waiting for the 35d. But after getting the update, I'm a happy camper. Prior to the update, it was a chore accelerating from a stop, give the car too much gas and it just leaps/jerks forward very uncomfortably. I'd have to be very light on my foot and wait until it shifts into the next gear before giving it more gas. It always felt like the car was starting in second gear and that it wasn't that responsive to the pedal until it reached the proper speed. Needless to say, I was always slow off the line. Now after the update, I can step on it regularly and the car will smoothly shift at the correct point. It feels more responsive as if the car is now starting in 1st gear (like in DS mode), but with an earlier shift point. No more wild leaps/jerks! |

Well I put my X into my stealer, (Harry Fairbairns) in Glasgow for the u/g last Thursday, and I insisted the receptionist knew what service bulletin I was referring to before I dropped the phone, so that I knew the job was going to get done rather than them make some excuse and send it back without it being done, as it was also in for an oil service and brake fluid service too. Anyway I left the two bulletins on the passenger seat that I got off the forum here, just incase the numb nuts engineers didnt know what I was on about . The receptionist assured me I was being paranoid, and that all their techs are fully qualified blah .. blah ... and I was unimpressed, but said ok I'll leave it with you
Guess what, I got phoned on Thursday to say 'hey' your car is ready , so I asked if the transmission upgrade was done ok and the service dude said 'what upgrade ?' .....Grr .. he came back after 3 minutes and said they could not do it because their was a problem with Germany's IT systems and no updates could presently be completed , so like the good natured car owner I am, I left it till next day, then I got a call saying that the car told them it needed a new 'ecu' so I said ok, and assumed it was dealer speak for ' uuhh we dont have the reprogramming computer its out on loan' Saturday morning came and they phoned to say that they fitted the new ecu, but now the car said there was a problem with the ipod unit during the upgrade, as it expected to see a CD unit fitted instead and the upgrade would not complete ........ Today (Monday) I have got it back, and I have to say its a really big improvement No more excessive down shifts , or holding ratios for too long .. its not perfect, but boy is it better no more sudden jolts or jerks. Good job to this forum and the OP Cheers |

The other SIB regarding the take-off and downshift when coming to a stop is still apparent. Still jerky on take-off's. Does anyone know if I can tell that they 'really' did the SIB?

Is there a similar SIB for 3.0's?
