Question Xenon Issue!!!

Hello everyone!

As you know, i have a U.S. spec 4.8i, and couple of times when i drove through the long trips, while having low beams on, i noticed that most of the cars where letting me know that my lights bothered them, this kept happening all the time. The main highway in my country is almost like U.S. back roads, where you have to go to the on coming traffic to pass the car, so as i mentioned above on coming traffic drivers kept blinking their low and high beams to let me know that my lights bother them, it does not matter if i have highs or lows on this keeps happening.

The reason i decided to post my concern as a question is because, today i let my father borrow my X, and i went ahead and got out of the house before he pulled out, and as i was walking towards home, i noticed my X coming down the road, and auto lights had switched on by then.

The xenon lights where hurting my eyes so bad, i could not look at my X, thats when it hit me. Do you guys think there could be something wrong with my xenons? my 4.8is does not have that problem i'am sure of that, even in the city, some cars let me know that my lights are bothering them, on the hightway 9 out 10 cars do that, and today as i tolled you, lights where bothering me so much, that i closed my eyes couple of times.

Every time i start the car, xenons level themselves automatichly so i don't think thats an issue.

Does anyone else have this issue or it's just me?

Are your lights just brighter than everyone else's?

Do cars that have xenon lights flash you too?

I recently drove in the country here and got flashed a lot ... I have also changed my Xenons to 6k which I thought might cast more glare than stock 4300k HIDs ... Generally speaking I don't think there's an issue .. but they are bright !!!

They level themselves, but they still need to have the initial adjustment correct. Have them adjusted by a Dealer and/or an independent garage with a headlight aiming set-up.

It is possible to do it yourself if you have a level place about 25 foot long, etc.

I bought my car lowered, maybe because of that, xenons are pointing little upward? No idea but all i can say, drivers are giving me a very hard time, i will take it to a dealer this week, see what they say!

We had the same problem with our E53 2001 X5. I simply adjusted them down a little using a procedure like Pengiun posted. On an E53 there are easy to reach plastic knobs to make all the adjustments safely.

FWIW the issue is the very sharp cut off at the top of xenons. Your lights only have to be adjusted very slightly to high to be annoying to oncoming drivers. It is important that the cut off be level (or slightly lower) as you back away from the wall. Otherwise the further the oncoming car is from you the brighter your lights are to them.

Since your car was lowered there is a good chance that the previous owner adjusted the lights just a little too high.

Unless you put in 55w HID 6000k's, they aren't brighter than the OEM 4300K's. If you're using the same projectors and just changing the bulb, why would you get more glare? I'm just asking because I'm pretty passionate about HID lighting and thought that maybe you could teach me something here.

The 4300k's have the most lumen output of all of the spectrum colors. I think that's why the OEM's use them (and they probably get a good deal on them ).

They might look brighter to cars also because the truck sits a bit higher and the lights are right in the line of sight, instead of illuminating the bumper, like a car light would. I've noticed this while driving our car and having a pickup or SUV behind us. Just a thought!

Generally I think people find the bluish color of 6k gives more glare than the 4300k Hids...
