Youry, you will need either a Carly Bluetooth adapter (Android) ora Wifi interface (iOS) to connect to your car. The cheapest option that worked with my E70 was an ELM327 v1.5 WiFi unit (about US$20). This worked fine for diagnostics with my iOS version of Carly, but I was not game to try it for coding. I also own an original BMWhat Wifi adapter and have just purchased the Gen II Carly for BMW adapter as this is the unit that Carly will be basing all further model additions on.

Thanks for the info. I ordered the Gen II Carly. Can't wait to do some changes

The Bluetooth adapter from Carly works perfectly with Android.

And so it is clear, Carly cannot connect to the media system Bluetooth.

I just switched from Android to Iphone and previously bought the Android Bluetooth connector. Will this not work with IPhone? I'm curious why Iphone is WiFi...that seems weird.

No, apparently the Bluetooth connector is only for Android - the full rundown on their adapters is here The Right Adapter For Your Car

Welcome to the world of iProducts. Apple is worried about security and they do not want to allow data transfer via Bluetooth, they are OK with voice, music A2DP and some one directional data transfer, but do not easily allow 2 way data transfer via Bluetooth.

I believe it can be done, however, there are too many hoops to jump through so all the iOS App developers have just worked around the Apple limitation by using the WiFi adapter in Add Hoc mode.

gotcha. Thanks for the info. Fortunately I still have an Android tablet so I guess I'll just keep that around for coding purposes should I need it.

I have an Android tablet that I use for Carly and other OBDII Apps along with other things.

In find that a small tablet is easier to use Carly on than a phone anyway.

I prefer Android, but if I ever migrated to iProducts, I would still keep my Android tablet for many reasons.
