The new variables (input data points) over the past few days are:
1) Few scattered reviews from common magazine and websites. A lot of comments about utility, style, and function. Is it worth the extra money? Some negative comments about the potential buyers of that car...etc 2) Release of the X6 specs (EPA, Wight... etc) 3) The pictures of the view (or lack of) from the rearview mirror provided by Palbay. Here are my thoughts (rant). 1) Regarding function, style or utility: If I’m buying a car, I really need to like it, and as a minimum, I need to make sure the wife doesn’t hate it… In summary, the new reviews did not and should not change anyone opinion of the car!! - X5 and X6 comparison are bound to happen. Same car manufacturer, same interior and only differ on the outside and some performance. - Almost anywhere you find a forum discussing the X6, you can not help but wonder, what in the hell did the X6 do to people? Why so much negativity. It is not a gas Guzzler like a hummer, nor it is being built by malnourish or abused workforce in some 3rd world country. 2) The specs are somewhat disappointing. I was hoping for a lighter vehicle, and better MPG’s. 3) Some commented negatively about that aspect (rearview). It is a legitimate point of concern which I had myself. But anyone who sat in the car would have noticed it. I categorized that point under the “sacrifice for style” and “I can live with”. One thing you can say about BMW is that they recognized it and made the PDC part of standard equipment. Anyway, I am still planning (though disappointed with MPG’s) to test drive the car and see for myself. |

Good comments all, imo...
As I wrote earlier, I really, really like the look of the X6; and the handling sounds pretty damn good espc. in view of its weight. We have a diff situ being retired and thus, the entry cost point combined with a potentially so-so mpg for the real world driving we do, is an economic hurdle that is hard for us to overcome or rationalize. The rear vis situ is of zero concern and the nits in the reviews are not really a neg, either. No manual is odd, and it is a porker and it is large, (for a 2 + 2), and it is damn pricey...but, I still like the look and the idea. Wish it weighed 600+ lbs less, got a few more mpg on hiway, came with a manual trans and didn't cost $70 in medium trim. Woulda, shoulda, coulda...I still like it, though. Hey Pal,
Have you checked the specs on turning radius compared to an X5? The X5 is 42'. I won't post the X6 number here because the one I saw seems incredibly low. Thought you might have seen one we can trust. I think we are all waiting to see who will be the first to get a test drive. If I like the ride and drive, and can live with the visibility issue, my color is white with most options. |
