Dear UCrew

Thanks for the tip. If it happens again...or WHEN it happens again, I will certainly try your approach.

Meanwhile, does anyone know what Verizon's plans are in terms of providing a software patch (if that is what is needed) to allow the Treo to pair with a BMW?

Here's what BMW advises regarding the Sprint Palm Treo 650. No other 650 is listed as being compatable.

The Treo 650 is compatible after updating it with software version 1.12. Download this update to your PC at http://www.palmone.com/us/support/sprintup05/ and then hot sync to your Treo 650. Update support is also provided at Sprint retail stores. Only phone numbers stored as Speed Dial entries will be accessible from your BMW. Your BMW will not be able to access phone numbers stored as Contacts in your PalmOne Treo 650.

Yes...the Sprint Treo 650 is listed as being compatible, but there are issues with Sprint, and then, too, I would prefer Verizon to Sprint. I hear that Verizon is working with BMWNA to make the Treo 650 available to us, and the Treo 700 as well. I have been hoping that someone on the inside of BMWNA would join this conversation and add details as to the testing and verification program now going on, and tell us the projected release date for the phone (s).

Here is the trick. Make sure your Treo 650 screen is lit and "on" when you start your BMW. Put the Treo 650 in the "phone screen" with the "bluetooth on".....Within 1 min, the BMW Bluetooth will pair with the Treo 650.

Also, make sure you have the latest firmware for your Sprint Treo 650.

Dear Kewl: Based on conversations with Verizon Wireless, it may not be too long before we Verizon customers get a treo that is APPROVED! So no more hit-and-miss. I wish I knew exactly when, or at what stage the testing and verification process is....which is the question I have posed in other postings.

It was inevitable because both Sprint & Cingular just got updated firmware which also included updated Bluetooth profiles which will support the Visteon BT Module in the BMW (the BT-only module).

I am not sure how I got my BT/Assist module to work with my Treo 650 in the M3, but I'm glad it works. However, if Verizon makes that update, then I'll definitely retrofit BT in the X5.

06 X5 with BT/Assist and VzW Treo 650

Just wanted to share my exp since there seems to be a lot on this topic.
First off, the instructions that came with the care suck at best. Very non-discript. Second, it paired up just fine and it took the couple favorites that I had and copied over. However, I can only initiate a call from the phone, not the steering wheel button. I haven't had the car a day yet, so i'm not sure how incoming calls are working.

The favorites #'s star with (area code) num-num. So, I'm going to take out the parenthesis and see if that does the trick.

Does anyone know the palm setting for allowing BT to wake the phone?

Also what will be interesting is that I have Credent Mobile Guardian software on the phone which locks it after 10 min of idle time. I'll keep at it and post more info as I figure things out.

I've been messing around with '05 4.8is and getting my unlocked GSM 650 phone to work with the Bluetooth. Last night it was doing that rebooting trick, where it constantly rebooted. I did the firmware upgrade to the Palm tonight and expected a miracle, but alas, none.

My current symptoms are that it just never synchs to the X5 BT. I've made progress in that I'm no longer rebooting all the time, but now the synch doesn't work, so I can't make a call out or receive one this way.

Any other suggestions? I thought about running by the dealer, but that seems like a grandiose waste of time
