subwoofer question, please help a new member!!
i have a very similar amp to the thread posted by alpac (visionik) with the same wiring harness that is shown ('01, 4.4i, dsp, no nav). this is my 4th bmw and about my 10th custom stereo system, but i have never used high level inputs and am not familiar with them! can someone please be a little more specific with the wiring? i cannot wait to upgrade this sound system as it will be my first mod to my new favorite bmw!! |

If you have an amp with high level inputs that means you can tap into the speaker wires to feed your amp. It is called high level because the signal has already been amplified as opposed to a low level signal which needs to be amplified before going to a speaker. If your amp only has low level inputs and you still want to feed it from the speakers wires you will need to add a line level adaptor. If your X5 has DSP chances are you have the same audio connector as mine. Check your stock amp and see if it has a 15pins connector. The stock amp is normaly located on the left side behind the flashing. To check the pins you will have to eject the connector from the stock amp. This is the large connector that has a dozen or so wires connected to it. If it has 15 pins then follow the instructions I posted in the previous post. http://www.xoutpost.com/stereo-system...nd-system.html
Good luck |

If your system is DSP. Just tap the sub wires.

wow, you make that sound almost too easy!
i have been back there and taken everything apart so i am familiar with the setup, and i do have the same harness and you have shown. the high level harness coming out of my amp has 5 wires, one is ground and the other 4 appear to be for speakers as they say L+ & - and R + & -. are these the ones that i put (bridged?) into the sub? where does the ground go? where do i connect the spliced pin 7 & 14 wires, to the other side of the amp for the main + & - ?? is the remote, or 'turn-on' wire no longer needed? thank you for your help and i apologize for being a little cautious. |

If you do not have the 15 pins connector then you may have the non premium audio with a 12 pins connector which then is a totaly different wiring. |

thank you for the diagram.
what i meant is that the harness coming from my amp has 5 wires. the harness in the x is identical to yours. i am still unclear about the rest of the wiring, mostly about the amp and the high level stuff. thanks for your help again! |
