OK - many thanks - I have successfully managed to update the latest navboot file and install a new Splash logo. However, the complex logos such as the 3D BMW Roundel on the blue background just won't load - or if it does, it doesn't then extract out.

Is there something different with these GIF's that won't show up in gifExtractor when loaded? I see that you have released an X5World version - I was trying to just install the plain GIF - as I said in my previous post, I am a bit reluctant to play around now as I wasted most of the morning trying to get the CD out of the Nav Computer.

Thanks for your help so far.

Mark.

PS. The image below is the one I am trying to load into the latest navboot file.

Thanks guys!

First of, I wanna thank nomad, ambishop and 2Wires for the great work they've done to make this all possible. I've never thought that I've get a chance to customize my car's navi like I'm able to do now. Thanks guys!

Today I've successfully updated my system with a customized V26 built with the latest v26-3d-final ambishop postet shortly ago. Now my car's got 2D and 3D mapview pointing North or in travel direction and I've replaced the voice and board computer menus from GB/F (English and French) to US(f) and US(m) (American female and male) including my own splash screen.

That's just the perfect setup for my wife and me (she uses the German language and voice and I can choose from the female and male US setup) The only glitch left is that the setup screen still shows D, GB and F for the language choices (which is no problem at all!) and the cluster still switches to French, when I choose F (of course,) but since I was able to replace the Lng_Francais file within navboot with the US version that's the only drawback with which I have to (and can) live.

This is just awesome!

I've read that V27 is out, allowing for changing to 3D (perspective) view using the "hidden" GPS menu. I haven't seen it myself, but if it's like I've heard, I most likely won't go for it. The way like ambishop implemented the 2D/3D switch is way more intuitive than calling up a special menu by following a kinda complicated key press sequence (I'm thinking of my wife here <grin>), so...

Just my $0.02

@trapdoor:
Have you tried to burn and load that modified image anyway? What version of GifExtractor are you running (afaik, the latest is V1.6)?

I've had the exact same problem with an older version of GifExtractor (GIFs not showing up after having been replaced,) but everything worked well when I burned and loaded that image anyway - well, that's been before I've upgraded to GifExtractor V1.6, though...

That's what I did this morning - that's the burn that got stuck in the Nav drive!! So I was a bit cautious to say the least.

Am using V1.6 of gifExtractor - have just downloaded the complete X5 customised image and am going to extract the navboot out of that and see if I can see the logo in there (and exchange it).

I did wonder whether it would take the image OK if I just went ahead, but wanted to check on here in case there was a newer version of the GifExtractor or an additional step I needed to go through.

May have a go tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for the info.

Mark.

OK. @stevep and others who have issues with the ETA function.

I took several long trips today - to known destinations, and used the Route Guidance mode. I can say that the ETA function worked perfectly for me on all the trips.

I can confirm that I initially used the T26.09A bete release, and have loaded several of the intermediate releases up to and including ambishop's 3d Final release.

As a quick overview of the new software, I find the 3D mode to be a real bonus as it allows you to see MUCH further ahead than the standard 2D plan mode - so it's really not JUST a nice cosmetic upgrade - it really does have a use. However, the 3D mode in 'Point North' seems a bit pointless as you loose the 'up to the horizon' distance view (depending on which way the car is pointing).

What I really do like are the niceties of the 3D imaging. Like the 'things' in the distance appearing much smaller and slightly 'in the mist'. Take a major highway road label - when it 1st appears on the horizon, its slightly indistinct and small, and as you 'get nearer' to it, it becomes clearer and gets bigger as it passes 'under' the vehicle ring and then off below. REALLY cool.

I also like the way the clouds change and move across the screen as you change direction.

The ONLY thing that would improve it aesthetically, is if the sky would darken when it is night (perhaps with stars/moon in leiu of the clouds)!! Now, that WOULD be cool.

The Nav ran flawlessly for several hours throughout the journey - no freezes, reboots or anything. The mapping seemed to keep up with the car's movement & turns in the same way that the 2D mode does.

OK - no street names, but then I don't think it would be too good with all the clutter. Your current location at street level is in the RH pane of the split anyhow.

All in all, the best update for the Nav so far. So many thanks to Martin (ambishop), UCrewX5 and 2Wires for all the effort put into making this workable and available.

Mark.

PS. Sorry for rambling

Attention for MKIII navigation system owners! You CAN NOT change navi voice and splash screen logo using tools for MKIV navigation system. I tried 3 times to change voice and 2 times change logo for MKIII and every time MKIII was down. I used the same tool - GifExtractor. I think that MKIII program code logic is different from MKIV. Be careful! But these tools work perfect for MKIV.

Good luck!

I just got back from a 4 day trip, approx 800km with nav, not even a glitch or hickup, it works GREAT.

Just so much better then 2D view once you get used to it.

I'm running 3D toggle, I kinda like the fact that it's kinda hidden in splitscreen

Just wanted to share this for the people concerned with stability. It's rockstable

Andy

Hi,
the image wrks fine for me.

But only one short question.

When i look in the hidden service Menu und the telemetric data of the car:
carcolor cartype and so on.

The cartype has changed to 7er instead of X5, the carcolor has lost.
Changing the colortype is no problem, but changing the cartype back to X5
is not selectable.
Does anyone know if it comes from the SW update and if yes, can i preselect the cartype somewhere in the navboot file?

Many thanks for any idea.

regards

mcgonzo

If you have 16:9 also the INFO and SELECT Buttons don´t work. Your MK4 is gone to the OEM Mode.
Contact your dialer and code the Mk4 to your car again.
This saves all Problems.
