MK4 drives and dynamic routing

I've bought a BM54 radio from a well known online auction site that allegedly supports dynamic routing. However it isn't working with my MKIV drive (manufacture Date:12/04) with firmware v28 and my 2006-2 Europe DVD. TMC works just fine but not dynamic routing. I thought all MKIV drives supported dynamic navigation or am I wrong in this assumption?

Only BM54's made after September 2005 support Dynamic Routing. What is the production date on the sticker with the serial number?

The BM54 was manufactured 51/03 from what I can tell.

This was the description:

You are bidding on an original BMW BM54 Professional Radio tuner module.
Fits to BMW E38,E38,E46,X3,X5 also fits'02 to '04 Range Rover
It supports both full TMC messaging and dynamic navigation. This is the new model type with square pins. Manufactured By Becker Germany in 2003.

Bad news. That won't support Dynamic Routing. Looks like the seller has misrepresented it.

Thanks guys. So am I right in thinking that all MK4 drives support dynamic routing but only BM54's manufactured after September 2005 support it? The seller is refusing to refund me saying the MK4 drive is at fault not the BM54.

I beleve that you have been mis-informed by your dealer. I confirm that the item is sold as described and is a BM54 radio which does indeed support TMC which in turn supports dynamic navigation via the MK4 Navigation computer. Only MK4 computer after 2005 can support dynamic navigation. This I have checked prior to despatch.
Please also note that I have quite clearly stated in the description that I do not give refunds for items bought in error. I am sorry in this instance I can not help you.

The seller is wrong, but may be using incorrect terminology.

In my car August 2004 build, with the original BM54 I got re-routing options on detecting delays on the planned route. This requires manual intervention.

I then changed the BM54, without changing the Mk IV, and now have the 'Dynamic Route' option, which reroutes you automatically around delays.

I agree with Richard. I never had Dynamic Routing on my Mk4 Nav, but had the BM54 swapped out under warranty and the oprion appeared under the route type selection menu (where you can select shortest, fastest, motorway etc).

This definitely was not a coding requirement for the BM54 as when I queried the dealer & the Tech about how this option works, they didn't have a clue what I was on about - so it is definitely an option that magically appears in the menu when the later BM54 is installed.

Was this the Lithuanian seller that seems to have tons of modern BMW spares? I was tempted at one point to get the very latest CD Changer from him so I could read MP3's ... was just too suspicious of where he gets the stuff from (stolen and stripped high-end cars per chance?)

As for the date from when this mod was incorporated, yes I think it was the latter part of 2005. I believe my BM54 was manufactured in April 2006. The ebay text is a bit misleading but he could claim that the 'dynamic' bit of the routing he refers to is that with TMC it will inform you of delays. He didn't misrepresent the manufacturing date, so you may have difficulty in making a claim.

Did you pay by PayPal? Does his ID have PayPal buyer protection? If so, you may be able to make a claim via PayPal as 'Item not as described' and state that Dynamic Routing is a very specific BMW term that refers to the ability of the Nav to AUTOMATICALLY reroute around delays without manual intervention.
