I have a 2002 '52' plate X5 4.4 and have recently upgraded the nav unit from MKIII to MKIV. I've also just ordered Rolf's interface unit, and have a couple of questions which I would be grateful for some answers to.

Firstly, with regard to accessing the i-Bus, I note that the 3-pin plug at the back of the CD unit is most commonly used. Whilst that is OK, I've noticed a few other unused similar 3-pin plugs on various wiring looms in the area of the CD & Nav units, are all these i-Bus connectors?

Secondly, when I upgraded the Nav unit from MKIII to MKIV, I lost the facility whereby a selected destination would have its "Distance" and "Arrival Time" automatically fed across to the Board Computer. Furthermore, when the Nav unit is actively guiding me to a destination, I can't even manually input a "Distance" into the Board Computer, to do this I have to turn guidance off, input the distance, and then turn guidance back on.

The Nav unit came from a German X3, and upon searching X5 World for an answer, it may be a simple case of recoding the unit by ticking the Navcoder "Show Arrival Time" box which is applicable to X5s, is this correct as it's both "Distance" and "Arrival Time" that are affected? If this is not the case, I have also learned that software downgrading and re-upgrading may fix the problem, but how (and with what) does one downgrade to an earlier software version?

Well, in my X3 I accessed the i-bus line on the back of the TV module as that was the easiest to get to. Not sure which would be the easiest module to get at in the X5, but ALL the modules have an I-bus line. I cannot recall the cable colours but it is the only cable with THREE colours on it I think.

It may just be a case of recoding the MkIV with the correct vehicle type. I would imagine that the navicomp has certain parameters which when set by vehicle type, make the navicomp act in a certain way, so sending the data to the OBC/MID. If I recall, the checkbox for "show arrival time" is to enable the calculation and display of arrival time on the Nav screen - you know the little icon with an updating time next to it in the RH pane.

Try coding for your vehicle 1st and see if that works - make one change at a time and then you can post your findings.

Sorry you are wrong. NavCoder does not support Memory Seats or any Car-Key-Memory at this stage

Is ther any chance that NavCoder will code Car or Key memories ?

Or must we go throught OBD2 bus ?

It all depends on

a) whether I can figure out how
b) whether I have time to do it
c) whether it can actuall work (because not every device is on the ibus)

My wife complains I spend more time with my car than with her already...

If the plug has a white/grey/yellow wire, then that wire is the ibus.

The ibus is always white with grey stripe and yellow spots.

Go with your wife is more important than our cars.
