"Error reading CD/DVD" I tried using the DVD from my E39 and get the same error so I assume it's the drive.

BTW I also tried an old CD and got the error message no disc in the drive.

Buy the laser from the Dutch shop, and then take laser and nav to a local electronics firm that has experience replacing lasers in DVD mechanisms. This is a cheaper way then replacing the whole nav. |

Thanks will do. I've found a few places that claim to repair nav computers but no one was less than $600.00. The Dutch guy will sell me a new drive and laser for $225.00 and he says I can replace it myself so we'll see. I'll post how it turns out.

1. Remove top cover of nav (clipped on) 2. Remove 4 x torx screws that hold nav drive in place 3. Unplug nav drive connector 4. Fitting is a reversal of removal |

I just did it:
My MK4 was starting to die Take the cover off Unscrew 4 torx bolts and remove flatcable And another cable pull off And there you have your complete laser unit I searched for a brandnew DVD M3 4.6 Brandnew one for €145 bought at http://www.navigatie-onderdelen.nl/ New vs old: Place it back. Cables back 4 torx bolts screw The cover back on And your MK4 is back new again. Since then he is much faster and no reading errors anymore. |
